What do skill trainers do in Dune: Awakening?
Skill trainers are your ticket to new abilities and stronger builds. There are two main types: basic trainers, scattered throughout the wilds of Arrakis, and advanced trainers, who stick to the social hubs. Basic trainers let you unlock skill trees from classes you didn’t pick at the start, while advanced trainers help you power up your known skills and grab some potent new abilities. Heads up: the trainer from your own starting class can’t teach you anything new, so think carefully at character creation!
All Basic Skill Trainer Locations
Trooper Trainer
You’ll probably bump into Ghavouri, the Trooper trainer, first. He’s hanging out at Griffin Trading Outpost, right along the main story path. To get him on your side, just take out a few targets for him – easy XP and a new skill tree in your pocket.
Mentat Trainer
Samin Moro, the Mentat trainer, waits outside the Riftwatch base, east of The Anvil in Hagga Rift. She’ll want iron ore (unlock the iron research tree!) and plant fiber before she’ll teach you anything. Her quest is all about crafting poison for the local bandits.
Swordmaster Trainer
For sword skills, talk to Arno at Pinnacle Station, between Eastern Shield Wall and Jabal Eifrit Al-gharb. It’s a trek, so bring water. Arno will send you on a hunt for secret messages – this quest takes you through some tough zones, so come prepared.
Bene Gesserit Trainer
Sister Mesa, your Bene Gesserit contact, is in Helius Gate in Eastern Shield Wall, under a green canopy. She’ll ask you to poke around some Fremen ruins in search of prophecy clues.
Planetologist Trainer – The Hidden Class
Planetologist is the only class you can’t pick at the start – you need to unlock it via a special quest. Grab the “Assistance Required” contract at Griffin Trading Post, then help Derek Chinara above the imperial research facility. If you’re not paying attention, you could easily miss this!
All Advanced Skill Trainer Locations
Ready to get serious? Advanced trainers live in Arrakeen or Harko Village – just pay 2,500 Solari for an Ornithopter taxi from any trade post, unless you’ve built your own ride. You won’t need advanced skills until you’re a bit further along (maybe after your third or fourth Trial of Aql), so no rush. Quick note: there is no advanced trainer for Planetologist as far as we know.
Bene Gesserit Advanced Trainer
Find Jacosta near the weapon stall in Harko Village. Her quest sends you into Fremen ruins, just like Sister Mesa’s. Finish her mission and you’ll unlock powerful Bene Gesserit upgrades.
Swordmaster Advanced Trainer
Seron Varlin is also in Harko Village, close to the northern gate and a campfire. He’ll ask you to recover his old sword – complete this for some serious Swordmaster power boosts.
Mentat Advanced Trainer
Zayn de Witte in Arrakeen is your go-to for advanced assassination skills. You’ll find him in a bar, and yes, he wants you to handle some “targets” for him.
Trooper Advanced Trainer
Kara Valk, the advanced Trooper trainer, is also in Arrakeen, up on the city’s second floor. She’ll give you a mission to infiltrate a slaver camp and grab transmitters. And if you want, you can deal with the slavers, too – but it’s not required.
