How to Start Trials in Dune: Awakening
To begin your journey, you’ll need to follow the Trials of Aql as you progress through the main story. Each trial starts at an Aql Altar, but the game only gives you a vague image of the area, not a map marker. So, be ready for a treasure hunt! Just hit the “View Trial Location” button in your Journey menu under “Find the Fremen” – this shows you a photo clue to help you track it down.
First Trial Location: Hagga Basin South
The first trial comes as part of the “Echoes from the Past” main quest. Head to the southern part of Hagga Basin South and look for the largest rock formation. Approach from the west, climb the path, and look for an opening on your right. This leads to Mihna Cavern.
Once inside, interact with the altar and get ready to dodge some giant eyes as you make your way through the level. Stay alert!
Second Trial Location: Eastern Vermilius Gap
After the first trial, move on to the Eastern Vermilius Gap. This region is tougher, so take all you’ve learned so far! The altar is southeast of the largest rock formation, inside a spot called Deep Struggle. Find the entrance by approaching from the east, head through a gate marked with a blue Eye symbol, and go up the stairs. Use your knife to open the way, then drop down into the hole on your left.
Inside, you’ll unlock the Static Compactor schematic so you can collect Flour Sand. Watch out for the tougher enemies!
Third Trial Location: Western Vermilius Gap
For the third trial, head all the way to the Western Vermilius Gap. Look for a large rocky area at the edge of the zone. This time, you’ll need to fight through some enemies to reach the altar, so come prepared. If you’re worried about the sandworm, take a detour south for a safer route.
Climb up, pass the clan flags, and keep your guard up—there are three enemies straight ahead, two with shields. Once you’re inside, follow the tunnel to the altar. Heads up: the Emperor’s forces destroyed this altar, so there’s actually no trial here to complete.
