Rita’s roguelike perspective

Unlike Doug Liman’s live-action Edge of Tomorrow, which centers on Tom Cruise’s character (Cage / Keiji), the anime adaptation reframes the time-loop war primarily from Rita’s point of view. Consequently, the story emphasizes her repeated attempts to fight back after each reset, and how those repeats affect her physically and mentally.

Trailer and teasers

A new trailer has been released by the production team. It highlights scenes from the film and gives a look at the animation style and pacing. The trailer was posted to the film’s official channels.

Cast and crew

The film is being produced by STUDIO4℃ and directed by Kenichiro Akimoto. Voice cast members announced so far include Ai Mikami as Rita and Natsuki Hanae as Keiji. Natsuki Hanae is known for roles in Demon Slayer and Dandadan.

Release and distribution

All You Need Is Kill is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on January 9, 2026. The film’s social account has asked fans to “stay tuned” for information about a global release schedule.

Official description

After invasion by unknown creature, Rita finds herself trapped in a time loop. Every time she dies, she wakes up again on the same morning. Determined to fight, she grows stronger with each loop – but the weight of endless death wears her down. Then she meets Keiji, who says, “When you die, I return, too…” Together, they begin to carve out a new future. “Escape it!?” “We have to give it a try!” But what awaits them is a cruel fate, they must choose the one who will survive… An action-fantasy sci-fi spectacle brought to life with STUDIO4℃’s stunning, dynamic visuals!

What this means

In short, the anime adapts the same source material as Edge of Tomorrow but shifts the narrative focus to Rita. Therefore, viewers can expect a different angle on the loop structure and character dynamics, while keeping the original novel as the shared foundation.
