Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update Drops July 29: Level Cap Boost, New Game Plus & Claws of Awaji Expansion Incoming

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Summer Update Brings Level Cap Boost and New Game Plus
Ubisoft is rolling out a fresh update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on July 29, packed with exciting features for fans to dive into. This update will raise the player level cap from 60 to 80, introduce new Knowledge Ranks, and add fresh Mastery and Knowledge Skill tiers. Alongside these, there will be new upgrades for Hideouts, including the addition of Heiji’s Forge.
- Level cap increased to 80
- New Knowledge and Mastery Skill ranks
- Hideout upgrades with Heiji’s Forge
- New Game Plus mode launching post-final story mission
- Upcoming quality-of-life improvements in September
- Claws of Awaji expansion releasing on September 16
One of the key highlights is the introduction of New Game Plus, available as soon as players complete the final story mission. This mode resets story progression, objective boards, and discovered locations but keeps your character level, gear, skill points, Knowledge Rank, and Hideout progress intact. Ubisoft offers flexibility here:
“When launching New Game+, you can choose to start again from the very beginning, reliving the important events of the Tensho War in Iga — or you can fast-forward after the prologue to the moment Naoe inherits ownership of the Hideout. Either way, we made sure that none of the basic tutorials will bother you on your second playthrough.”
Besides the level cap and New Game Plus, July 29 also marks the arrival of Project 3, which brings new resources, data files, and exclusive Animus-themed rewards. Players still working on earlier projects can choose to finish them or switch to the new one with no rush.
Looking ahead, early September will bring a quality-of-life update focused on making the game smoother and more enjoyable. This includes:
- Unfogging the world map after viewpoint synchronization per region
- Ability to skip time-of-day, jumping ahead to dusk or dawn
- New Forge upgrade levels unlocking Mythic and Artifact equipment rarities
- Additional Hideout updates and upgrades
- Uncapped frame rate for cutscenes on PC
- Various bug fixes and stability improvements
- Extras for longtime series fans
Finally, mark your calendars for September 16, when the first expansion, Claws of Awaji, launches. Those who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows will get access to the expansion for free. Ubisoft plans to share more details during a Reddit AMA on August 12, so keep an eye out.
