Intellivision Sprint overview
Atari describes the Intellivision Sprint as a “modern revival” of the original Intellivision. The unit keeps the original console’s look, but also adds updated features like wireless controllers, HDMI output and a USB-A port. In short: it’s built to look familiar, while working with modern TVs.
Games included
The Sprint ships with 45 built-in games. That lineup includes classics such as Astrosmash, Shark! Shark!, Star Strike, Thin Ice and Boulder Dash. In addition, it bundles a mix of sports titles (Baseball, Chip Shot Super Pro Golf, Soccer, Super Pro Skiing, Tennis, Super Pro Football) and strategy/arcade favorites (B-17 Bomber, Sea Battle, Space Battle, Utopia).
Hardware, price and availability
The console retails for $149.99. Pre-orders open on Oct. 17, and Atari plans to ship orders on Dec. 5, making it a holiday-season release. The Sprint includes wireless controllers, HDMI output for modern TVs, and a USB-A port for accessories or storage.
History and ownership
Originally designed by Mattel Electronics and widely released in 1980, the Intellivision was created to compete with the Atari 2600. It was technically advanced for its time, offering better graphics, while the 2600 had a larger library and lower price point.
In May 2024, Atari announced it had purchased the Intellivision brand from Mattel, and noted the possibility of new Intellivision projects. The Sprint announcement so far focuses on classic titles rather than brand-new games.
