BAFTA-Winning Herobeat Reveals Rewilders — A Ghibli-Inspired Roguelite Where Cute Creature Companions Help Heal a Dying World

Herobeat Studios — the BAFTA-winning team behind Endling: Extinction is Forever — has revealed its next game, an open-world action roguelite called Rewilders: The Lost Spring. The studio shared a short reveal trailer that shows the game’s look and some gameplay systems.
- Who made the game and what it is.
- Core systems: exploration, creature collection, light farming, and roguelite design.
- Movement, narrative choices, and where to wishlist it.
What Rewilders is
Rewilders: The Lost Spring puts you in the role of Abi, a survivor trying to find her lost family and heal a damaged planet. As Abi, you restore ruined biomes and fight creatures corrupted by the planet’s poisoned surface and broken society. The tone is *adorable* but the stakes are environmental and emotional at the same time.
Furthermore, the game blends action with light management. While exploring, you’ll recruit fauna called Hântu — species that once lived in each land and are returning as you heal those areas. They can fight alongside Abi, be fed and leveled up, and ultimately form a team that supports different play styles.
Gameplay systems
Combat and movement are built around fluid traversal. Players can use gliders, wall-running, and grappling hooks to explore an interconnected open world. Meanwhile, each run changes things up: randomized loot, enemy placement, and spawn points add variety. However, Herobeat calls the roguelite elements *forgiving*, especially when it comes to death and respawn.
On top of that, Abi’s Skyship acts as a permanent base. There, seeds and collected resources can be planted to create lasting buffs, evolve Hântu companions, and prepare for the next descent to the surface. These light farming-sim mechanics give progression between runs, not just within them.
Choices and inspiration
The game also includes a narrative mechanic tied to how you restore the world. Players can choose to use Memory to bring the world back to its original state, or allow Hatred to shape the world’s future. As the studio explained, “The team was heavily inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films for conveying messages of ecological destruction, empowerment, and family.”
