What the book is

Batman/Static: Beyond is an Elseworlds miniseries scheduled for six issues. The publisher says the first issue will be released on November 12, 2025. According to the press release, the story is a “high-stakes mission that could reshape Earth’s place in the cosmos,” and it centers on a global technological blackout that forces Static and Batman Beyond to work together.

Who’s behind it

The series is written by Evan Narcisse, known for Rise of the Black Panther, with art by Nikolas Draper-Ivey, who worked on Static: Shadows of Dakota. Draper-Ivey said, “This story is intended to be a commentary on our overreliance on technology and the imminent dangers becoming complacent and too comfortable using AI to substitute our own imagination and human ingenuity.” Additionally, Narcisse described the character dynamic this way: “Static is a former teen hero who grew up to take on even more responsibility for his city and the larger world, while Terry is still figuring out how to do those things in his own way.”

Context and continuity

Terry McGinnis’ Batman first appeared in the 1999 animated series Batman Beyond, which was set in the then-future year of 2019. Milestone’s Static Shock premiered in 2000 and starred Virgil Hawkins as Static. The two animated shows ran at the same time and crossed over in the “Future Shock” episode.

Separately, the Milestone 30th Anniversary Special previously paired Batman Beyond with an adult Static; that pairing suggested an older Static working alongside the future Batman. For background on that pairing, see the Milestone write-up here.

Plot focus

From the available details, the plot focuses on the blackout and its wider implications. The story is presented as both a superhero adventure and a look at contemporary concerns around technology and AI. Beyond the premise, the publisher and creators have framed the miniseries as a timely exploration of those themes.
