Battlefield 6’s Campaign Fails to Find an Identity — But One Mission Finally Feels Like Battlefield

Battlefield 6’s single-player campaign is a standalone story that runs for about 10 hours. You play as members of an elite squad called Dagger 13, and the central plot has them trying to stop a private military corporation named Pax Armata. The campaign moves through several locations and mission styles, and early multiplayer impressions from pre-launch play were more notable than the campaign alone.

Campaign identity and cast
The single-player portion is not tied to a larger canonical Battlefield universe. Instead, it presents a self-contained story with a rotating cast: Carter, Murphy, Gecko, and Lopez. Because the characters are introduced within the campaign’s short runtime, the game does not create long-running arcs or recurring characters as you might see in rival shooter franchises.
Locations and mission design
Campaign missions take place in a varied set of locations. For example, players visit Gibraltar, Brooklyn, a plain in Tajikistan, and the area near the Pyramids of Giza. Consequently, the game shifts between urban streets, tunnels, and more open plains. However, most missions trend toward smaller, more confined environments rather than consistently epic, large-scale battlefields.
Operation Ember Strike
Operation Ember Strike is the eighth mission out of nine. In this mission you are given an open Tajikistan plain and an objective to destroy three missile sites. You can approach the sites in any order, and the mission supplies a drone that can be launched from cover to bomb enemies. Therefore, the mission offers multiple tactical approaches and culminates in a large set piece that resembles traditional Battlefield scale.
Weapons and vehicles
The game retains the series’ established gunplay. Weapons feel substantial and deliver the expected feedback in single-player. That said, the campaign does not include opportunities to pilot aircraft. Tanks appear as drivable vehicles; they are described as durable but relatively slow and cumbersome to maneuver.
Technical issues and multiplayer notes
In the pre-release build, testers reported several technical issues. These included missing floor textures, AI squadmates performing inconsistent actions (such as attempting revives from far distances or moving through enemy groups), and squadmembers not always following the player. These issues were observed during early access testing and may be addressed before or after launch.
Finally, early hands-on with multiplayer during pre-launch showed promise, though matches were limited by low server population at that time. Therefore, a fuller assessment of Battlefield 6 as a whole will require additional post-launch play on populated servers.
