Release and platforms
Black Ops 7 launches Nov. 14 on PS4, PS5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. In addition, Treyarch confirms the game will include the familiar three pillars: a story-based campaign (solo or up to four players), competitive multiplayer, and Zombies.
Campaign: a mind-bending, replayable experience
The campaign is described as a “mind-bending story” that takes place in a “world of fear” shaped by earlier Black Ops entries. Developers also said, “there’s no homework required” to understand Black Ops 7’s events. Moreover, the campaign features Spectre 1 Operators such as David “Section” Mason (Milo Ventimiglia) and Mike Harper (Michael Rooker) chasing Raul Menendez.
Gameplay footage shows the campaign blurring memory and hallucination. For example, Menendez appears at times as a skyscraper-sized threat, and players move through twisted environments that reflect Mason’s fractured psyche. In addition, Raven’s creative director Jon Zuk said the campaign will “[blur] the line between reality, memories, and hallucinations,” and will keep players “guessing what’s real and what isn’t.”
Endgame: replayable campaign structure
After finishing the campaign, players unlock Endgame, a replayable experience that brings global progression across campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies. Endgame offers repeatable missions with new challenges, special abilities, and unlockable loadouts that can carry between modes. It borrows elements from Zombies-style progression and resembles repeatable activity loops found in other live-service shooters.
Examples of new abilities include a Mega Jump (not a jetpack), a grappling hook, a deployable shield, and deployable drones. Additionally, Endgame will include daily and weekly challenges, reticle challenges, and seasonal events. Weapon prestiging returns, with prestige-exclusive attachments and camos.
Multiplayer: maps, weapons, and movement
Treyarch plans 16 6v6 multiplayer maps at launch: 13 new maps plus three returning from Black Ops 2. There will also be two large 20v20 maps. The 2035 setting introduces new and returning futuristic weapons, with 30 weapons available at launch and 16 of those new to the franchise.
New systems include an Overclock system for Scorestreaks, field upgrades, and equipment. Overclocks change how these tools function, sometimes altering lethality or utility. Scorestreak examples shown by Treyarch include:
- RC-XD — the Black Ops RC car returns and is described as “highly militarized.”
- Gravemaker — this sniper rifle can see through walls — but don’t worry, Treyarch says it’s balanced.
- Skewer — a highly precise missile that doesn’t explode; it blends its target.
- Rhino — a remote attack robot meant to evoke a Black Ops Juggernaut.
- VTOL Warship — for large-scale bombing runs.
- HKD — a seek-and-destroy drone filling the Attack Dog archetype.
- UAV/Counter UAV — returning staples.
- Interceptors — for taking out enemy air support.
The Omnimovement system returns with refinements: wall jumps, a combat roll to reduce fall damage, and the ability to move while mounted. However, Tactical Sprint is gone, and players cannot aim down sights while sliding. New large-scale multiplayer mode Skirmish is a 20v20 mode combining objectives with wingsuiting, grappling hooks, and vehicles.
Zombies
Round-based Zombies returns. Treyarch promises the biggest Zombies map ever, with drivable and pilotable vehicles. Black Ops 2 Survival maps will be revisit-able, and the Zombies story continues from Black Ops 6. The returning cast includes the crew from Black Ops 6 and alternate versions of original protagonists Richtofen, Nikolai, Takeo, and Dempsey.
Beta and availability
There will be an open beta in October. Specifically, a beta test will run Oct. 2–8, with early access for players who pre-order and for eligible Game Pass subscribers.
Those are the confirmed facts so far. Treyarch says the game contains “a lot of wild ideas,” and further details — especially about Zombies — will arrive at future intel drops such as Call of Duty Next.
