Blizzard Teases Massive World of Warcraft: Midnight Reveal at Gamescom 2024

Blizzard is skipping BlizzCon this year, but don’t worry — the next big reveal is right around the corner at Gamescom! If you’re a World of Warcraft fan, you’ll want to mark your calendar for August, because Blizzard is promising major news and surprises about the upcoming expansion, Midnight. Here’s what you need to know!

  • No BlizzCon in 2024 — next event is Gamescom in August
  • World of Warcraft: Midnight will get its full reveal
  • Exclusive updates straight from the devs
  • New info on player housing and the story
  • Possible surprises from other Blizzard games
  • No release date for Midnight yet

Blizzard’s next big stage: Gamescom 2024

With BlizzCon officially postponed until 2026, Blizzard is shifting its focus to Gamescom, the massive gaming expo in Germany. The studio confirmed in a brief blog post that fans can expect “exclusive news and updates on the next chapter of the World of Warcraft: Worldsoul Saga — Midnight — directly from the development team, along with a few additional surprises we have in store.” Sounds promising, right?

What’s coming in Midnight?

Midnight is the second part of the Worldsoul Saga, a three-expansion arc led by Chris Metzen, the original Warcraft mastermind. Here’s what’s confirmed so far:

  • The story will take us to Quel’Thalas, home of the Blood Elves
  • Player housing is finally coming to WoW — Blizzard already teased some early details!
  • More big reveals and gameplay changes expected at Gamescom

What else to expect at Gamescom?

While Midnight is stealing the spotlight, Blizzard might have some surprises from its other franchises, too. The Gamescom stage is known for big announcements, so it’s definitely worth tuning in if you’re a Blizzard fan.

When will Midnight launch?

There’s no official release date for Midnight yet. Typically, new WoW expansions arrive every two years. Since The War Within launched in August 2024, a mid-2026 release for Midnight seems most likely. But of course, we’ll have to wait for Gamescom for the full scoop!
