What Netflix released

Netflix posted a behind-the-scenes featurette for Blue Eye Samurai. In that featurette, creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green say that the character Mizu remains focused on revenge. Moreover, executive producer Jane Wu shows how French studio Blue Spirit collaborates with stunt performers to stage the show’s fight choreography.

Teaser footage: concrete details

The teaser includes several clear action beats. For example, it shows Mizu fighting through a monastery and chopping at ninja, and it depicts limbs being severed. There is also a sequence in which Mizu appears in a crowd besieging a heavily fortified castle while holding a pitchfork. In that castle sequence, the mob is struck with flaming arrows and doused with boiling oil. During the attack, Mizu drops the pitchfork and switches to her sword, uses a body as cover from arrows, then pulls the arrows out to climb the wall.

Returning characters and cast

The featurette confirms that several key supporting characters will return. These include:

  • Mizu — voiced by Maya Erskine
  • Ringo — voiced by Masi Oka
  • Master Eiji — voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa
  • Princess Akemi — voiced by Brenda Song
  • Taigen — voiced by Darren Barnet

Context from season one

To recall the setup, the first season ended with Mizu leaving Japan to look for two more potential fathers in London. The series previously won an Emmy, and Netflix’s new material shows the production moving forward while keeping many of the original creative team and cast attached.
