Be sure to bring a few fire arrows — the Reliquary of Compassion on Mount Yōtei is a small puzzle that depends on heat and the Altered Hankyu bow. It sits high on Teshio Ridge and rewards you with upgrades or gear once solved.

The Reliquary of Compassion is located on the north side of Teshio Ridge. Specifically, head to the northern shore of Sarobetsu Lake where you’ll find a red torii gate marking the entrance to the Chilled Peak Shrine.

From there, follow the shrine path upward. You will need to climb and jump between branches as usual, and, importantly, use nearby campfires to stay warm in the freezing winds.

Next, slide across a frozen section of the trail where a campfire sits to your right. Instead of going right, go left toward another fire and follow the trail upward. That path leads to a narrow opening you can squeeze through to reach the reliquary area.

Bow requirement and preparation

First, you must have the Altered Hankyu bow to use fire arrows. If you haven’t upgraded the Hankyu bow yet, visit Yōtei’s Shadow Inn and talk to Ran, the Bowyer, to get the first upgrade.

Once you have fire arrows, the puzzle is straightforward. Light the bowls in front of the four fox statues with fire arrows; this both keeps Atsu warm and starts the sequence needed to rotate the statues.

Then, follow these exact statue turns in order:

1. Turn statue one once.
2. Turn statue two twice.
3. Turn statue one once.
4. Turn statue three twice.
5. Turn statue four twice.

After the last statue finishes moving, a short scene will play and the reliquary will grant your reward. If you make a mistake, you can reset the puzzle by fast traveling away and returning to the reliquary.

Reliquary of Compassion rewards in Ghost of Yōtei

The reward depends on how many reliquaries you’ve already completed. If this is your first reliquary, you receive the Charm of Mount Yōtei, which increases Atsu’s defense.

Otherwise, you receive an upgrade to the Charm of Mount Yōtei that raises the defense bonus, plus a piece of gear. The exact gear varies based on the number of reliquaries you have solved so far.
