Bubsy Is Back and Trolling His Own Legacy — Bubsy 4D Revealed for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC (2026)
Bubsy the Bobcat is officially coming back. Atari and Brazilian developer Fabraz revealed Bubsy 4D during the Gamescom Opening Night Live pre-show, and the announcement included a gameplay-forward trailer and a 2026 release window for current consoles and PC.

Trailer and reveal
The trailer shown at Gamescom Opening Night Live presents Bubsy 4D as a sequel that acknowledges the series’ history. It shows the title’s tone as openly self-referential: Bubsy makes jokes about Atari and about himself, and the trailer includes several nods to other mascot platformers.
Who’s making it
The game is being developed by Fabraz, the studio behind Demon Turf and Slime-San, and published by Atari. During the reveal, Atari offered a statement on the intent behind the project:
“Bubsy has always had a reputation – some of it notable, some of it infamous,” said Ethan Stearns, VP of Games at Atari. “But through it all, Bubsy has remained memorable, and we felt the character deserved a truly great game behind it. In teaming up with Fabraz, we believe we’ve finally delivered just that with Bubsy 4D: a fresh take that both respects the past and brings something entirely new to the table.”
Gameplay details
According to the trailer and publisher notes, Bubsy 4D builds on the movement-first approach of Bubsy 3D. Consequently, the game’s core focus is traversal: players will use a variety of jumps and glides to move through open, playground-like levels. Additionally, the game introduces Hairball Mode, which transforms Bubsy into a rolling ball of fur that travels at high speed.
Tone and presentation
Furthermore, the trailer shows the game leaning into meta humor. Bubsy directly references his own reputation and makes several fourth-wall comments in the reveal footage.
Platforms, release window and re-release
Bubsy 4D is planned for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X with a release window in 2026. Before that launch, Atari and Limited Run Games will release Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection on Sept. 9, which includes:
