Caught a Diglett? It Might Be Ditto — Full September 2025 Disguises and How to Hunt a Shiny

Ditto hides in plain sight — it pretends to be other Pokémon, so you have to catch the impostor to reveal the real thing. Below are the confirmed Ditto disguises players have been finding in Pokémon Go as of September 2025, plus how shiny Ditto works.
Pokémon Go Ditto disguises in September 2025
Ditto can appear as ordinary wild Pokémon, and then transform after you catch them. Therefore, to hunt Ditto you target specific species that are known disguises. According to reports and in-game behavior, the following Pokémon have served as Ditto disguises:
- Oddish (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Koffing (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Rhyhorn (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Goldeen (Gen 1, Kanto)
- Spinarak (Gen 2, Johto)
- Numel (Gen 3, Hoenn)
- Bidoof (Gen 4, Sinnoh)
- Gothita (Gen 5, Unova)
- Solosis (Gen 5, Unova)
- Bergmite (Gen 6, Kalos)
- Stufful (Gen 7, Alola)
When you tap a disguised Pokémon and catch it, the catch screen will show the “Oh?” prompt and the Pokémon will reveal itself as Ditto. Also, keep in mind that Niantic changes which species Ditto can disguise as from time to time, so this list can update after events or balance changes.
How to find shiny Ditto in Pokémon Go
Shiny Ditto is possible, but there are some rules to know. First, if you encounter a shiny version of a species that can be a Ditto, that encounter will always remain that species and never be a Ditto. In other words, you won’t lose a shiny by tapping it.
However, any Ditto you actually catch has a chance to be shiny. Expert community analysis from The Silph Road estimated the shiny Ditto rate at about 1 in 64; you can read more in their research via the Wayback Machine research from The Silph Road.
Finally, shiny Ditto was first available through a paid Special Research during the Kanto Tour in 2021, but since then shiny Ditto has been obtainable in regular encounters when you catch a Ditto. Therefore, keep chasing Ditto disguises if you want a shot at a shiny.
