Coyote vs. Acme Is Back from the Dead with a 2026 Theatrical Release—Get Ready for the Ultimate Looney Tunes Legal Battle!

Coyote vs. Acme, the live-action Looney Tunes movie that was once thought to be dead, is officially coming to theaters in 2026. After being shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery, the film found a new home with Ketchup Entertainment, who revealed new images and the release date at San Diego Comic-Con.

  • The movie is a legal comedy featuring Wile E. Coyote suing Acme Corporation over faulty products.
  • Originally filmed in 2022 and planned for a 2023 release, it was shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery.
  • Ketchup Entertainment picked up the film and set the theatrical release for August 28, 2026.
  • Directed by Dave Green and starring Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor, and Tone Bell.

From Shelved Project to 2026 Release

Coyote vs. Acme had a rocky road. The film, blending animation with live-action, was completed in 2022 and originally scheduled for 2023. However, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to shelve it, opting for a tax write-off instead of releasing the movie. This move frustrated both fans and creators, especially since similar treatment was given to projects like Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt.

After Warner Bros. Discovery shopped the film around to other studios such as Sony Pictures and Netflix without success, Ketchup Entertainment stepped in. This distributor also released the animated feature The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie earlier this year, showing their interest in Looney Tunes projects.

What’s the Movie About?

The story centers on Wile E. Coyote taking legal action against the Acme Corporation for their defective products, which have caused him countless injuries in his endless attempts to catch the Road Runner. The legal comedy angle offers a fresh twist on the classic Looney Tunes antics.

Cast and Crew

The film is directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch. The cast features Will Forte as Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, John Cena playing a lawyer for Acme, alongside Lana Condor and Tone Bell. Producers include Chris deFaria and James Gunn, bringing strong creative forces to the project.

Release Date and First Look

Coyote vs. Acme will hit theaters on August 28, 2026. Fans got their first glimpse of the film’s poster at San Diego Comic-Con, marking a hopeful comeback for this long-delayed Looney Tunes movie.
