Death Stranding Expands Into Animation
If you thought the upcoming live-action movie with A24 and director Michael Sarnoski was the only big screen adventure for Death Stranding, think again. Kojima Productions LA just revealed they’re working with Line Mileage to bring an adult-targeted animated feature inspired by Death Stranding to life. This is not just a copy of the game’s story, but a fresh, original take set in Kojima’s wild universe.
Aaron Guzikowski Joins as Writer
The screenplay will be penned by Aaron Guzikowski, known for his work on Raised by Wolves and Prisoners. He’s clearly thrilled, saying:
“I love the world of Death Stranding, it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful. I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe.”
Line Mileage’s Take on the Project
Daniel Dominguez, Chief Creative Officer at Line Mileage, also shared his excitement for the project. He called the game “the most cinematic, thought-provoking video game I have ever played,” adding:
“Playing it gave me the same emotional rush, visceral punch, and intellectual pleasure I had the first time I watched Blade Runner, or Ghost in the Shell. Adapting it into a form it so naturally evokes is an honor. And for Aaron Guzikowski to lend his talents, whose authorial mind and creative energy humble me… needless to say, this project is a dream come true.”
What’s Next for Death Stranding?
There’s no official release window for the animated feature just yet. But with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on the horizon, there’s plenty for fans to look forward to while waiting for these cinematic adventures.
