Demon Slayer’s Lead Voice Feels ‘Mugen Train’ Pressure — Channing Tatum Joins Infinity Castle

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle arrives with clear expectations: follow up the massive success of Mugen Train, keep fans invested in an upcoming trilogy, and prove the franchise’s global appeal. The film continues directly from the anime’s fourth season and pushes the series into theaters worldwide on Sept. 12, 2025.

What Mugen Train achieved

In October 2020, Demon Slayer’s feature Mugen Train became the year’s highest-grossing movie. Globally, it earned more than $500 million and set records as the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film of all time.

For verification, Box Office Mojo lists Mugen Train among the top earners for 2020, and historical rankings are available on Wikipedia.

Specifically, more details can be found on Box Office Mojo’s 2020 worldwide box office page and on Wikipedia’s list of highest-grossing Japanese films.

Cast response and recording process

Lead English voice actor Zach Aguilar, who voices Tanjiro, said Mugen Train’s success added pressure but also inspiration. He described giving “110%” to the role and said the film pushed him further as an actor.

According to Aguilar, the recording process for Infinity Castle differed from Mugen Train because the Mugen Train sessions happened during COVID. For Infinity Castle, Aguilar worked in the studio with a team including Bang Zoom, producers from Aniplex, and ADR director Steve Staley.

Aguilar said, “I think that I’ve always given 110% to my role as Tanjiro. And to see the success of Mugen Train is just absolutely incredible.”

He also said, “It does inspire me to continue and go further beyond.”

Nezuko’s actor and expectations

Abby Trott, who voices Nezuko in English, said she puts pressure on herself to deliver consistent performances across TV and film. She described re-recording lines if she’s not satisfied.

Trott said, “I always want to give my best, so I put pressure on myself to make sure I’m giving 100%. If I’m not happy with something, I’ll say, ‘Let’s do it again.’”

The film introduces a new character, Keizo, who appears in a flashback as the master of the Soryu dojo and is voiced by Channing Tatum in the English version.

Producers and industry observers have noted a trend of higher-profile live-action actors participating in anime projects in recent years. Aguilar commented on anime’s growing influence in pop culture while referencing other well-known actors joining anime titles.

Aguilar said, “It’s just crazy to see something that was kind of niche that people didn’t fully understand back in the day has become just this massive influence in pop culture.”

Release details

Infinity Castle is the first installment of a planned Infinity Castle trilogy and continues events from Demon Slayer’s fourth season. The film is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on Sept. 12, 2025.

Aguilar emphasized the collaborative nature of the dubbing and post-production process, noting that many ideas are tested and the final voice choices come from group decisions during ADR sessions.

He said, “When I did Mugen Train, that was during COVID — it was a different time. I really enjoy going into the studio and working with the team as a whole, and I got to do that on this movie. We’re always going back and forth, trying things out — like, ‘What if I approach this scene differently, or tweak this line?’ It was a really collaborative process.”
