Discover 3 Must-See Magic: The Gathering Cards From the Sci-Fi Set Edge of Eternities

Three Exclusive Card Reveals from Magic’s Sci-Fi Set Edge of Eternities
Magic: The Gathering is boldly exploring new territory with its upcoming set, Edge of Eternities, a science fantasy space opera filled with robots, terraforming bugs, and epic battles across the Sothera star system. Ahead of its August 1 release, here are three exciting cards that showcase the set’s unique flavor and mechanics.
- A versatile white instant that can protect or damage
- A red artifact creature with a powerful graveyard ability
- A green-black insect that supports milling and recursion
Reroute Systems – A Flexible White Instant
The white instant Reroute Systems offers two useful options: it can either deal 2 damage to a tapped creature or grant indestructibility to an artifact or creature until end of turn. This makes it a solid combat trick, especially in limited formats where protecting your spaceship matters after you’ve assigned crew. The card also benefits from the new “Station” mechanic, allowing you to potentially take down a tapped enemy creature that’s powering their own spacecraft. Plus, Reroute Systems could be a neat addition to Feather, the Redeemed Commander decks, which love cheap spells that can be reused multiple times.
Roving Actuator – Red Artifact Creature with Void
The red artifact creature Roving Actuator introduces the new “Void” mechanic. It triggers when a nonland permanent leaves the battlefield or a spell is warped in, letting you exile an instant or sorcery costing 2 mana or less from your graveyard and cast a free copy. Red decks have plenty of cheap spells to maximize this ability. With Edge of Eternities’ focus on robots, this creature type might become important. It also pairs well with decks using Blink effects, Treasure, or Clues to keep triggering Void consistently.
Seedship Broodtender – Green-Black Insect with Milling and Recursion
Seedship Broodtender is a green-black insect that mills three cards upon entering the battlefield and can be sacrificed for 3BG to return a creature or spacecraft at sorcery speed. The insectoid Eumidians are busy terraforming the planet Evendo, making insects a thematic and strategic focus in Edge of Eternities. Golgari insect decks, already popular in Commander with commanders like Grist, the Hunger Tide and Zask, Skittering Swarmlord, will find Seedship Broodtender fits right in.
