Doja Cat and Fortnite timeline

Epic Games announced a partnership with Doja Cat for Fortnitemares promotion through the Fortnite X account, and Fortnite’s X handle posted a selfie that claimed she had taken over the account.

Shortly after, the Fortnite account published several short posts written in a casual voice that some users said sounded like Doja Cat. Later on, the Fortnite account deleted the original takeover post.

Social posts and Doja Cat’s replies

The Fortnite account posted lines that included product mentions and casual commentary. For example, one post read, “One of my Fortnite skins is bald headed and that’s just something people are going to have to get used to,” and another read “Mother of rose toys.” These posts were visible on the Fortnite X timeline before at least one was removed.

Doja Cat replied in the Fortnite mentions on X, writing: “shit cringe as fuck[.] now I’m embarrassed,” and “I told them not to[.] man that’s not even me,” while appending a wilted rose emoji. She also wrote a separate reply: “me when I wish that somebody tweeted something like this to a bunch of kids.”

In-game content, removals and leaks

Following the social posts, reports from other outlets said Epic removed a weapon called the Chain of Hades, and some coverage suggested the change followed Doja Cat’s comments on a livestream. For reporting on that change, see this article.

Separately, leakers posted that Fortnitemares content would include a weapon named Thorn Ripper, which aligns with the rose theme used in some posts.

Doja Cat’s past brand collaborations

Doja Cat has previously worked with brands and adopted various tones in those promotions. One past example is a partnership to create a jingle for Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza; reporting on that collaboration can be found at this article.

Additionally, she posted promotional content that included staged or playful elements on TikTok as part of later campaigns.
