How to upgrade the needle in Hollow Knight: Silksong
To get the needle upgraded, you must complete a specific quest and then visit a shop in Bellhart. First, start and finish the quest called The Threadspun Town. After you complete that task, head to the right-hand side of Bellhart and look for a storefront marked with needles on the sign.

The quest The Threadspun Town begins in Bellhart. You must fulfill the quest’s requirements before the needle upgrade becomes available. In short, the upgrade is gated behind cleaning up that part of the town.
Finding Pinmaster Plinney in Bellhart
After finishing the quest, ascend to the top-right area of Bellhart. There you’ll find the needle shop; go inside to meet Pinmaster Plinney. Plinney will perform the first needle upgrade for free.
Next upgrades and the Pale Oil requirement
For the next needle upgrade, you’ll be asked to retrieve a Pale Oil from the Citadel and bring it back to Plinney. The specific Pale Oil location has not been confirmed here yet, so you’ll need to explore the Citadel or consult an in-game map.
