The Field puzzle (often called the scarecrow puzzle) in Silent Hill f traps Hinako in a looping fog unless you pick the right scarecrows in sequence. The Silent Hill f scarecrow puzzle, explained
The puzzle appears as a foggy field with groups of scarecrows. Each group contains one “clue” scarecrow that holds a note; nearby scarecrows show different poses. When you pick the correct one, remove the nail, and you get a hint (often a flash card or article) and a gust of wind that points to the next area. However, if you choose wrong or hesitate, a scarecrow may animate and attack. Also, the first area contains a sickle you can use as a weapon, but it breaks easily, so don’t depend on it long-term unless you have a toolkit or backup.
There are three official difficulty variants. Therefore, solutions differ slightly between Story, Hard, and Lost in the Fog. Below are step-by-step picks for each difficulty. Follow them exactly if you want the achievement that requires zero mistakes.
Silent Hill f scarecrow puzzle solution (Story)
On Story difficulty the opening question to each riddle is “Who are you?” In practice, the correct scarecrow in each group is the one that most closely resembles Hinako — specifically the one with a bobbed haircut that stops about halfway down the neck. Pick those five in order, remove the nail from each, and follow the wind between groups.
Scarecrow #1
Choose the female scarecrow with the bobbed hair who is holding a long, curved blade behind her. Remove the nail and follow the wind to the next area.
Scarecrow #2
Pick the female scarecrow with the bobbed hair and no weapon in her hands. Remove the nail and proceed.
Scarecrow #3
Select the female scarecrow bending over backwards, identifiable by a golden bird pinned to her jacket. Remove the nail and continue.
Scarecrow #4
Choose the short-haired female scarecrow with one hand pointing left and the other pointing behind her to a long-haired scarecrow. Remove the nail and follow the gust of wind.
Scarecrow #5
Finish with the female scarecrow who has bobbed hair, is looking at the ground, and holds both hands out to the side with palms down. Removing the nail completes the Field puzzle on Story difficulty.
Silent Hill f scarecrow puzzle solution (Hard)
Hard difficulty uses more descriptive flash-card clues. Below are the five correct scarecrows and the identifying details you should use when searching each group. Remove the nail from the listed scarecrow at every step.
Scarecrow #1
Find the smiling female scarecrow with a sickle whose head is cocked backward. She is to the left when facing the clue scarecrow. Remove the nail. The flash card reads, “It’s okay. You don’t have to be afraid anymore.”
Scarecrow #2
Look for the female scarecrow stabbed in the back and looking down. Remove the nail. The flash card reads, “That’s what I said to you, when I saw you so scared.”
Scarecrow #3
Pick the sullen-faced female scarecrow without weapons who is looking backward toward the others; she has a nail in her belly button and is on the left when facing the clue scarecrow. Remove the nail. The flash card reads, “I wonder why I called you over.”
Scarecrow #4
Choose the sullen-faced female scarecrow with outstretched arms who is looking to her right; she’s on the right when facing the clue scarecrow. Remove the nail. The flash card reads, “I could’ve just lied to you. Told you to go any which way.”
Scarecrow #5
Finish with the female scarecrow who has a sickle in her back, looks down at the ground, and has arms outstretched. Remove the nail and the Field puzzle is complete. You can then proceed to Rinko’s house.
Silent Hill f scarecrow puzzle solution (Lost in the Fog)
Lost in the Fog changes the pattern again. In this mode many correct scarecrows are either twisted, lying down, or use body position to point the way. As usual, remove the nail from the correct scarecrow in each area to get an article about Ebisugaoka and reveal the next direction.
Scarecrow #1
Choose the female scarecrow with its head twisted upside down. Remove the nail and collect the revealing article about Ebisugaoka.
Scarecrow #2
Pick the female scarecrow with arms outstretched and looking down at the ground. Remove the nail to receive another revealing article about Ebisugaoka.
Scarecrow #3
This one looks like the first: a female scarecrow with its head twisted upside down. Remove the nail to get another revealing article.
Scarecrow #4
Find the smiling female scarecrow with her head cocked backward and looking to its right. Remove the nail; the article appears as before.
Scarecrow #5
For the final step, follow a short chain of lying-down scarecrows whose outstretched arms point to the lone standing female scarecrow. Choose the final female scarecrow who has her arms outstretched and is looking down at the ground, then remove the nail to collect the last revealing article. After this, you can head to Rinko’s house.
Finally, remember these concrete tips: the first area gives a sickle but it breaks; take your time to identify haircuts and poses; remove the nail from the correct scarecrow to move forward; and if you want the Acupuncture Specialist trophy, make every pick perfectly on your chosen difficulty.
