Don’t Miss Keldeo — Complete Pokémon Go’s ‘Tales of Transformation’ Special Research to Claim the Mythical Encounter (Ends Dec. 2)

Pokémon Go’s new season, Tales of Transformation, runs until Dec. 2 and includes a limited-time Special Research that rewards an encounter with Keldeo. You must start the research during the season to claim it; however, once started you have unlimited time to finish.

Tales of Transformation — Step 1 of 8

Complete the following tasks to progress. They focus on Water- and Fighting-type activity, plus a few spins.

• Catch 25 water- or fighting-type Pokémon — Reward: 15 Poké Balls
• Power up water- or fighting-type Pokémon 15 times — Reward: 5 Revives
• Spin 10 PokéStops or gyms — Reward: 1 Charged TM

Step 1 rewards: an encounter with Keldeo, a Keldeo T-Shirt cosmetic, and 3 Keldeo Candy XL. If you already received a Keldeo from the previous paid ticket, you will instead get 50 Keldeo Candy rather than the encounter.

Tales of Transformation — Step 2 of 8

This step is broader and includes travel plus general catches and power-ups.

• Catch 30 Pokémon — Reward: 2,500 Stardust
• Power up Pokémon 15 times — Reward: 5 Super Potions
• Explore 5 km — Reward: 2,500 XP

Step 2 rewards: 25 Keldeo Candy, 647 XP, and 647 Stardust.

Tales of Transformation — Step 3 of 8

Focus here is on evolution, hatching and powering up Pokémon.

• Power up Pokémon 15 times — Reward: 10 Poké Balls
• Hatch 3 eggs — Reward: 1 Lucky Egg
• Evolve 5 Pokémon — Reward: 15 Pinap Berries
• Earn 6,470 XP — Reward: 1 Fast TM

Step 3 rewards: 10 Keldeo Candy, 647 XP, and 3 Keldeo Candy XL.

Tales of Transformation — Step 4 of 8

This step mixes catches, berries and raid wins. It also offers TMs.

• Power up Pokémon 15 times — Reward: 10 Great Balls
• Use 10 berries to help catch Pokémon — Reward: 2,500 Stardust
• Win 3 raids — Reward: 2,500 XP
• Earn 6,470 XP — Reward: 1 Charged TM

Step 4 rewards: 10 Keldeo Candy, 647 XP, and 3 Keldeo Candy XL.

Expect variety: species catches, field research, and XP goals.

• Catch 25 different species of Pokémon — Reward: 1 Mossy Lure Module
• Complete 10 Field Research tasks — Reward: 3 Silver Pinap Berries
• Earn 6,470 XP — Reward: 1 Fast TM

This step includes photography, Max Battles, and Stardust tasks.

• Power up Pokémon 15 times — Reward: 10 Ultra Balls
• Take snapshots of 10 different wild Pokémon — Reward: 2,500 Stardust
• Win 3 Max Battles — Reward: 2,500 XP
• Earn 6,470 Stardust — Reward: 1 Charged TM

Step 6 rewards: 10 Keldeo Candy, 647 XP, and 3 Keldeo Candy XL.

This step of the research isn’t available yet. Niantic will roll out the remaining steps as the season progresses, and this guide will be updated once Step 7 (and Step 8) appear.

Additional notes

By the end of the season you will be able to change Keldeo into its Resolute Form for the first time in Pokémon Go. Remember: you must claim the Special Research during the season (by Dec. 2), but once it’s in your journal you may finish it whenever you like.
