Get Ready for Pokémon Go Quaxly Community Day!
Mark your calendars for July 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. local time, because Pokémon Go is hosting the Quaxly Community Day! This is your perfect chance to catch tons of Quaxly, with a great shot at finding a shiny one. But that’s not all—there are plenty of bonuses and perks to make the event even more exciting.
- How to catch a shiny Quaxly and shiny rates
- Special move for Quaxly’s evolution Quaquaval
- Quaquaval’s performance in PvE and PvP
- Bonuses and tips to maximize your Community Day experience
How to Catch a Shiny Quaxly
During the event, Quaxly will spawn in huge numbers, making it easier to hunt for shiny variants. According to research from the now-defunct site The Silph Road (check it out here), the shiny rate during Community Days is roughly 1 in 24. So, if you keep playing through the three-hour window, you should be able to find a few shiny Quaxly.
If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, try using an Incense to attract Pokémon, then quickly tap each Quaxly to check if it’s shiny. You can run away from the ones that aren’t shiny. A handy tip: any Quaxly you’ve already tapped will face your player avatar, helping you keep track of which ones you’ve checked.
Special Community Day Move: Hydro Cannon
If you evolve Quaxwell into Quaquaval between July 20, 2 p.m., and July 27, 10 p.m. local time, it will learn the exclusive move Hydro Cannon. Missing this window isn’t the end of the world—you might get another chance during a Community Day weekend in December. But since evolving during the event requires less Stardust and candies, it’s easier to do it now. Alternatively, you can use an Elite TM later to teach the move.
Is Quaquaval Worth Investing In?
Quaquaval is a solid choice for PvE battles, especially if you’re a newer player looking for a reliable Water-type Pokémon. However, if you already have top-tier Water types like Kyogre, Mega Swampert, Mega Blastoise, or Primarina, you might not need to focus on Quaquaval.
In PvP, even with Hydro Cannon, Quaquaval doesn’t stand out much. So, if PvP is your main focus, you might want to consider other options.
Maximize Your Quaxly Community Day Experience
During the event, you’ll enjoy these bonuses:
- 3× Stardust from catching Pokémon
- 2× Candy from catching Pokémon
- Double chance for trainers level 31+ to find Candy XL
- Incense lasts 3 hours
- Lure Modules last 3 hours
- Quaxly will photobomb your snapshots
- One additional Special Trade allowed
- 50% Stardust discount on trades
Make sure to use a Star Piece and Incense to maximize Stardust gains. If you can Mega Evolve Pokémon like Blastoise, Slowbro, Gyarados, or Swampert, you’ll get extra candies per catch, which is a big help.
Plus, there will be a “Community Day Continued” Timed Research available until July 27, 10 p.m. local time. This research gives you more chances to catch Quaxly, including some with special themed backgrounds. Even better, the increased shiny rate stays active during this research period, so don’t miss out on completing it!
