Dropout’s Crowd Control: Comedians Must Improvise on Stage with Wild Audience Stories — Premiere Sept. 8

Dropout is expanding its slate with a new spinoff called Crowd Control, which premieres this fall. The series is based on a popular episode of Game Changer, and it sends comedians on stage with no pre-written material so they must improvise based on audience prompts and interactions.

    • What the show is and how it works
    • Who hosts and which performers appear
  • Where the idea came from and the original episode
  • When new episodes will start and how often they arrive

Format

Each episode of Crowd Control will feature three comedians performing in a room full of strangers. The performers have no prepared material; instead, they must improvise jokes and interact directly with audience members. Importantly, the audience decides the winner in each episode, unlike some other Dropout competitions.

Notable moments from the trailer

The trailer includes several striking lines from audience members, such as “An old woman put a curse on me,” “I almost lost my virginity at an orgy,” and “I accidentally circumcised myself.” These examples give a sense of the unusual stories the comedians will work with on stage.

Host and performers

Jacquis Neal will host the series. Neal has written for and performed on Dropout shows, including Make Some Noise. Regular Dropout contributors will appear, including Brennan Lee Mulligan and Ify Nwadiwe. The lineup also includes comedians such as Paul F. Tompkins, Jamie Loftus, Bob the Drag Queen, and others. Additionally, Gianmarco Soresi—who appeared in the original Game Changer episode—will return to perform in the new series.

Origins

The series takes direct inspiration from the season seven episode of Game Changer also called “Crowd Control.” That episode featured stand-up comedians Jeff Arcuri, Gianmarco Soresi, and Josh Johnson doing crowd work with no advance knowledge of what they would face.

When to watch

The first episode of Crowd Control will debut on Monday, Sept. 8. New episodes will follow every other week, consistent with the release patterns for many Dropout series.
