Dudunsparce Debuts in Pokémon Go: Double Candy, Ditto Shake-Up, and How to Hunt the Elusive 3‑Segment Variant
Pokémon Go’s “Completely Normal” event runs from Sept. 23 to Sept. 27 and brings Dunsparce’s evolution, Dudunsparce, into the game for the first time. During the event, Niantic has increased wild spawns for several Pokémon, adjusted Ditto disguises, and added bonuses like doubled candy for catches and doubled XP for evolutions.

Pokémon Go ‘Exceptionally Normal’ premium Timed Research and rewards
Niantic is selling an “Exceptionally Normal” Timed Research ticket for $1.99. The ticket provides a set of tasks that all end with guaranteed Dunsparce encounters. However, the reward package is small overall.

There are three Collection Challenges active for the event. Each one gives specific catches and evolutions as tasks and provides small rewards.
‘Very Normal’ Collection Challenge
Tasks:
- Catch a Dunsparce
- Evolve a Dunsparce into Dudunsparce
Rewards: 5,000 XP and 1 Lure Module.
‘Fairly Normal’ Collection Challenge
Tasks:
- Catch a Buneary
- Evolve a Buneary into a Lopunny
Rewards: 5,000 XP and a Dunsparce encounter.
‘Quite Normal’ Collection Challenge
Tasks:
- Catch a Pidgey
- Evolve a Pidgey into Pidgeotto
- Evolve a Pidgeotto into Pidgeot
Rewards: 5,000 XP and a Dunsparce encounter.
Pokémon Go ‘Completely Normal’ event Field Research and rewards
Spinning PokéStops during the event can grant Field Research tasks tied to the event. Tasks may be completed during the event window for the listed encounters or item rewards.
- Catch 5 normal-type Pokémon — reward: Lickitung, Dunsparce, or Miltank encounter
- Make 5 great curveball throws in a row — reward: Spinda encounter
- Spin 2 PokéStops or gyms — possible rewards: 1,000 XP, 10 Poké Balls, or 5 Pinap Berries
- Evolve a Pokémon — reward: Dunsparce or Audino encounter
Pokémon Go ‘Completely Normal’ event boosted spawns
During the event, Niantic lists several Pokémon with increased spawn rates. Ditto is also more common, and Niantic changed Ditto’s possible disguises for the first time since 2023.

Notes on Dunsparce and Dudunsparce
Dunsparce evolves into Dudunsparce for 50 Dunsparce Candy. Dudunsparce can appear with different segment counts; obtaining a rare three-segment Dudunsparce is possible but uncommon. You can collect candy during the event, since catches give double candy.
Also, the event grants double XP for evolving Pokémon, so evolving during the event will give extra XP.
Separately, new steps for the seasonal “Tales of Transformation” Keldeo Special Research were added around the same time, though those steps are not listed as part of this event.
