Elden Ring: Nightreign Patch Buffs Guardians, Fixes Revenant Spirit Collisions and Revamps Holy Icon

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Nightreign received a sizeable update on Wednesday that primes the game for the new hard mode, Depth of Night, releasing Thursday. The patch brings targeted buffs to several Nightfarers, tweaks to enemies and Limveld hazards, a helpful visual change for the Holy affinity icon, and a slew of bug fixes — you can read the full notes on Bandai Namco’s patch page.

High-level summary

In short: this patch (App Ver. 1.02.2 / Regulation Ver. 1.02.2) buffed several Nightfarers, changed the Holy icon so it’s easier to tell apart from Lightning, fixed collision and visibility issues with Revenant summons, increased Night’s Tide damage after the second night boss, and softened some of the Everdark Sovereign’s summoned threats.

Nightfarer tweaks

Several Nightfarers received focused adjustments. Most notably, the Guardian now gains Strength and Dexterity faster when leveling, has a wider Steel Guard passive angle, improved halberd guard-counter damage, and a longer weapon portion on the Wings of Salvation Ultimate Art.

Meanwhile, the Duchess gets increased Dexterity gain and boosts to some dagger attacks, though the two-handed dagger’s second heavy attack deals less damage. The Executor sees increased attack power when using the Cursed Sword, plus stronger attacks while certain skills are active. The Recluse had its Magic Cocktail improved: spells now cast faster and deal more damage.

Other Nightfarer changes include:

  • Wylder: more Poise while casting Claw Shot and increased stamina damage to blocking foes.
  • Raider: better stagger with Greataxe/Great Hammer attacks and increased Retaliation skill range.
  • Revenant: adjusted summon transparency; and as the notes state, “Players can now pass through Revenant’s spirits Helen and Frederick.”

Boss and Limveld changes

The Everdark Sovereign encounters received multiple adjustments. The Equilibrious Beast’s summoned condemned Nightfarers are generally toned down: they can now be dispelled by Law of Regression, have reduced attack power for certain summons, lower resistance to death status, and their re-summon damage-negation effect was removed. Additionally, the light dropped by defeated condemned Nightfarers grants a larger enhancement.

Also, the patch notes clarify adjustments to the Sentient Pest and other Everdark Sovereign variants, including modified attack actions and some increased attack/stamina values for specific enemies. Notably, the developers said they confirmed an issue where condemned Nightfarers might not render in certain conditions; that will be addressed in a future update.

In Limveld, the patch increased the Night’s Tide damage after defeating the second night boss, so cleanup or farming after Day 2 is now riskier. Spawn locations for Sentient Pest incursions were also adjusted so they’re less likely to appear far from players.

Weapons, relics and passive adjustments

Several combat systems were tweaked. For example, stagger damage with dual-wielded jump attacks was increased for some small and medium weapons but decreased for some large weapons. The death-status potency of the Eclipse Shotel’s Death Flare was raised. Also, cumulative effects from passives like Power of Vengeance and Power of House Marais now have a cap, and their potency was tuned.

Relic effects received multiple changes as well. Some relics now extend durations more, increase continuous HP recovery potency, or boost runes earned from critical hits. The Wylder follow-up fire attacks were set to consume stamina, and the fire-area burn effect was standardized between one- and two-handed use.

Bugs and quality-of-life fixes

There’s a long list of bug fixes. Highlights include fixes for Ultimate Art interruptions (Guardian), pre-input and critical-hit issues (Duchess and Executor), spirit revival and special-effect placement for Revenant summons, and a number of issues in battles with Everdark Sovereign bosses such as geometry and False Blessing-related level bugs.

Additionally, menu and icon updates were made: the design of the Holy attribute icon was adjusted so it’s less likely to be mistaken for Lightning. The patch also adjusted session-disconnection penalties and clarified that rejoining a session removes the penalty.

On PC, the update improved target switching with diagonal input and addressed some stability issues. Finally, the patch reduced rendering load for certain Everdark Sovereign attacks on PS4 and Xbox One.
