Elden Ring Nightreign’s Deep of Night Turns Expeditions Into a Brutal Gauntlet — Exclusive Relics for the Brave

FromSoftware is rolling out a new hard mode for Elden Ring Nightreign expeditions called Deep of Night, and it raises the stakes across Limveld. In short, enemies grow tougher, some usual expedition options disappear, and exclusive rewards arrive — with difficulty that scales the deeper you go.

What Deep of Night is

Deep of Night is a new high-difficulty expedition mode for Elden Ring Nightreign. It layers extra challenge on top of the existing Nightlord content and the Everdark Sovereign remixes that came earlier.

Put simply, this mode makes expeditions harder by strengthening enemies throughout Limveld and changing how expedition mechanics behave.

How expeditions change

First, enemies are stronger than usual across Limveld, so fights that felt routine before will demand more attention and better builds. Moreover, players won’t be able to specify which Nightlord they’ll face in Deep of Night. That removes a key bit of control people used to tailor difficulty.

Second, the mode removes the potential benefits of Shifting Earth locations. In other words, some expedition safety nets and bonuses are gone — making runs riskier and more consistent in difficulty.

Depth and rating system

The publisher says that Deep of Night difficulty will increase “the deeper you descend.” Additionally, “ratings will fluctuate based on wins and losses, affecting the ‘depth,'” which implies a layered structure that reacts to player performance. According to the announcement, “Depth 3 is a big challenge. Depths 4 and 4 promise “an endless battle for those seeking even greater thrills.”‘

Rewards and exclusive loot

To compensate for the increased risk, Deep of Night introduces new exclusive items. Players can find Depths Relics that only appear in this mode.

Meanwhile, some expedition weapons will come with additional effects not seen in standard Nightreign runs. Notably, a few of those extra effects are detrimental, according to an announcement from publisher Bandai Namco.

When it arrives

Deep of Night launches on September 11. FromSoftware and Bandai Namco are making this mode available to players looking for a tougher expedition experience.
