Every Great Taste of Pharloom Location Revealed — Crustnut, Pickled Muckmaggot and How to Deliver the Fragile Courier’s Rasher

The “Great Taste of Pharloom” is a side quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong that asks you to collect five rare Pharloom delicacies and deliver them to Loyal Mergwin. It starts in the Choral Chambers during Act 2, and some items require specific abilities or boss fights to obtain. Read on for exact locations, required tools, and a safe route for the fragile Courier’s Rasher.
“Great Taste of Pharloom” quest location
To start the quest, speak with Loyal Mergwin in the Choral Chambers after you reach Act 2. Specifically, you’ll find them west of Songclave (the First Shrine) and the Cogwork Core, inside the eerie dining hall area.
From Songclave, take the upper road west, clear the Cogwork Dancers on the Cogwork Core level, then drop down and descend into the dining hall. Walk right until you hit the glass orb; striking it will trigger Loyal Mergwin’s appearance and the quest.
“Great Taste of Pharloom” quest walkthrough
There are five delicacies to collect: Mossberry Stew, Vintage Nectar, Courier’s Rasher, Crustnut, and Pickled Muckmaggot. Below are each item’s exact locations and any prerequisites you should know.
Mossberry Stew
Mossberry Stew is given by the Moss Druid in the eastern part of Mosshome. You can reach the area by fast travelling to the Bellway station in The Marrow and then taking the platform routes leftward into higher rooms.
If you’ve already completed the “Berry Picking” quest, the Moss Druid will hand over the Mossberry Stew directly. Otherwise, they’ll ask for three Mossberries first. The berries are located below the Moss Druid, at the top of Moss Grotto, and at the top of the large chamber beneath Bone Bottom.
Vintage Nectar
Buy the Vintage Nectar at the Halfway Home inn in Greymoor for 480 rosaries. Start from the Greymoor Bellway, jump up and head right to find Creige at the inn.
After buying it, Creige will send you into the cellar to fetch the actual bottle. Interact with the item on the floor to trigger a wave of ants; defeat both waves (watch for the Skarrgard mini-boss) and then pick up the Vintage Nectar again to collect it safely.
Crustnut
The Crustnut is hidden in the Sands of Karak region, north of the Blasted Steps, and reaching it involves a tricky parkour sequence. Therefore, bring or unlock these abilities first when possible: Clawline, Faydown Cloak (double jump), and Ascendant’s Grip (Cling Grip).
From the Blasted Sands or Shellwood Bellway stations, use Cling Grip to ascend through hanging platforms and bells, and buy the Blasted Sands or Sands of Karak maps from Shakra if needed. In the vertical Sands of Karak rooms, hit yellow orbs to spawn parkour lines, then break red spike clusters with downward Needle strikes until you reach the Crustnut.
Courier’s Rasher
The Courier’s Rasher comes from Bellhart’s quest board after you complete the two prerequisite quests “My Missing Courier” and “My Missing Brother.” Tipp and Pill (the courier brothers) will let you take the rasher, but you must deliver it to Loyal Mergwin without fast travel.
Important details: the Rasher has a durability meter that decreases over time and when you take damage. If its freshness hits zero you must start again. Therefore, prep your run: equip movement upgrades like Silkspeed Anklets or use Flea Brew if you have them, and make sure the route’s shortcuts and hatches are opened beforehand.
A recommended path: start in Bellhart, run east through Greymoor, pass Halfway Home (take the lift up to Sinner’s Road), cross the vertical areas to reach the Exhaust Organ, then proceed through the Phantom arena, Grand Bellway, and the Choral Chambers. Finally, climb up into Loyal Mergwin’s dining hall and hand the Rasher over before the durability runs out.
Pickled Muckmaggot
The Pickled Muckmaggot drops from the Disgraced Chef Lugoli in the east side of Sinner’s Road. You need the Faydown Cloak (double jump) to reach the boss arena, which is behind pipes and a short parkour path from a near bench.
From Greymoor’s Bellway, head northeast toward the Halfway Home area, then follow the signs to the broken bench and fix it by hitting the strings beneath. Unlock the boss door to shorten the run, hit the golden gong to start the fight, and defeat Lugoli to obtain the Pickled Muckmaggot.
“Great Taste of Pharloom” quest reward
When you give Loyal Mergwin all five delicacies, they reward you with one stack of Pale Oil. You can then bring Pale Oil to Pinmaster Plinney in Bellhart for a Needle upgrade.
Note: the first Needle upgrade from Pinmaster Plinney is free, but if you bring Pale Oil a second time the upgrade costs 450 rosaries.
