  • Upcoming DC movies and series from 2025 onwards
  • Fresh takes on Superman, Supergirl, Batman, and more
  • Exciting TV projects including Lanterns and Peacemaker season 2
  • Animation, live-action, and spin-offs expanding the DCU

2025: A Big Year for DC

The first big release is Superman on July 11, marking the true foundation of Gunn and Safran’s vision for the DC Universe. This movie stars David Corenswet as Superman and features characters like Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner. It’s designed to break away from the old DCEU mold and set a fresh tone.

Also in 2025, The Sandman Season 2 continues on Netflix with Morpheus rebuilding the Dreaming and exploring deeper storylines. The first six episodes dropped on July 3, with the remaining episodes, including a special adaptation of Death: The High Cost of Living, coming July 24.

Peacemaker Season 2 returns on August 21 to HBO Max. John Cena’s character tries to join the Justice Gang, and there’s plenty of action and humor as Rick Flagg Sr. seeks revenge. Gunn praised Cena’s growth as an actor, calling this season “amazing.”

Looking Ahead: 2026 and Beyond

In 2026, the spotlight shifts to Supergirl on June 26, inspired by the acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics. Milly Alcock stars as Supergirl, with Jason Momoa playing space bounty hunter Lobo, promising a cosmic adventure unlike anything before.

September 11 brings Clayface, a horror-thriller-tragedy directed by Mike Flanagan. This film reimagines the Batman villain Basil Karlo, played by Tom Rhys Harries, whose body transforms into malleable clay after experimental makeup goes wrong. Matt Reeves is also producing.

On the TV front, Lanterns will arrive on HBO Max in early 2026. This eight-episode series revives Green Lanterns Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as intergalactic cops in a fresh take on the space-faring heroes.

Sequels, Spin-offs, and New Stories

October 1, 2027, will see The Batman Part 2 hit theaters, with Robert Pattinson returning and Matt Reeves back as director. While plot details remain under wraps, fans hope for stories featuring the Court of Owls or Mr. Freeze. Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin delivered the script in June 2025.

In 2028, an animated movie called Dynamic Duo will explore the origins of Robin Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, written by Matthew Aldrich. This promises a fresh, animated look at Batman’s famous sidekicks.

Other Exciting Projects in Development

The Authority is still in development but faces challenges as some story elements overlap with other projects like Superman. Gunn mentioned the script “hasn’t been as much of a priority” lately.

The Brave and the Bold will introduce Batman’s son Damian Wayne to the new DCU in a story inspired by Grant Morrison’s comics. This film will be separate from Matt Reeves’ Batman movies and focus on the father-son dynamic.

A Sgt. Rock movie was once planned with big names attached but now remains uncertain. Gunn says DC Studios is still developing it, but no release date is set.

Swamp Thing is a passion project for James Mangold but is on hold until his Star Wars movie wraps up.

The Mister Miracle animated series will adapt the 2017 comic about Scott Free, the greatest escape artist, facing a life-changing crisis.

Also coming is an animated Blue Beetle series focusing on Jaime Reyes, with Miguel Puga as showrunner.

Booster Gold will get his own comedic TV series, adding a fun new flavor to the DCU.

A new Wonder Woman movie is in the works, with the script currently being written, but no further details have been revealed yet.

Paradise Lost will explore the political intrigue of Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home island, in a series that feels a bit like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Waller, a spinoff from Peacemaker starring Viola Davis, is still alive despite production delays caused by strikes.

A live-action Teen Titans movie is in early development with a script by Ana Nogueira. This project aims to bring the iconic team to life beyond animated adaptations.

Deathstroke and Bane may team up for their own movie, with a script in progress by Matthew Orton.

A sequel to the 2005 Constantine movie is also on the horizon, with director Francis Lawrence and Keanu Reeves involved. Meetings with Gunn have taken place, and a script exists.

Finally, a Black Superman movie is being developed by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J.J. Abrams. It remains unclear if this will tie into existing stories or be a fresh take.

With so many projects planned, the DC Universe is gearing up for a diverse and exciting future, blending fresh perspectives with beloved characters.
