A New Chapter in the Final Destination Saga
Debuting in May, Final Destination: Bloodlines quickly became the most successful entry in the 15-year-old series. The story follows a family whose existence is threatened decades after a woman’s life was spared by a premonition back in 1969. Now, her descendants face a deadly fate, with death hunting them through elaborate and improbable accidents.
Honoring Tony Todd’s Legacy
One of the highlights is the return of Tony Todd as mortician William Bludworth, in one of his final roles before his passing in 2024. Co-director Zach Lipovsky shared, “He really wanted to be in this movie. He was sick when we were developing the film, and we were worried he wouldn’t be well enough [by the time we were shooting], but he really, really wanted to be there. And we wanted to craft a narrative around him, to give him a bit more of an origin story, to fill him out as a character.”
More Than Just Creative Deaths
Unlike previous installments where characters mainly served as setups for death sequences, Bloodlines offers a stronger emotional connection. The family at the center of the story feels more relatable, making the horror hit harder and the suspense more engaging.
While the HBO Max release won’t include some of the IMAX shots used in theaters, the film’s gripping narrative and shocking twists make it a standout horror film of 2025. It successfully revives one of the most iconic horror franchises from the 2000s.
