What’s in hotfix #34

The update is a hotfix release focused on bug fixes and performance improvements. Major content updates are reportedly finished, but Larian is still releasing hotfixes to address issues and improve stability. In addition, the patch includes a native build specifically for Steam Deck users.

Steam Deck native build

The new native build allows Baldur’s Gate 3 to run natively on the Steam Deck rather than through Proton. As a result, players should see a more stable framerate, shorter loading times, and a generally smoother experience on the handheld.

“This is not just good news for Steam Deck users either,” the studio explained in a blog post. “The work the team has put into this build also means that everyone will get to enjoy overall improvements to the way game models are streamed on all platforms, which should reduce framerate spikes in busy areas, such as the Lower City in Act 3.”

When launching the game on Steam Deck after installing hotfix #34, the title will be set to use native Steam Deck graphics settings by default. However, players can still tweak those settings if they prefer to run the game through Proton or customize performance and visuals.

General improvements across platforms

Beyond the Steam Deck-specific changes, the hotfix improves model streaming and reduces framerate spikes in busy areas like Act 3’s Lower City. Therefore, players on PC and other platforms may notice these stability gains as well.

How to set it up

Larian has published a step-by-step guide for Steam Deck users that includes screenshots and setup tips. For detailed instructions, consult this Steam Deck native version guide.
