Finally — The Easy Pimpillo Bomb Trick to Beat Sandcarvers and Finish the Silksong Hunter’s Log

If you’re trying to fill the Sandcarver entry in Hollow Knight: Silksong’s hunter’s log, there’s a reliable trick: you need the Pimpillo bomb. Otherwise the worms in the sand will keep hurting you or stay hidden, and the log won’t register. Below, you’ll find where the Sandcarvers appear, how to trigger the journal update, and where to craft the Pimpillo so you can finish the entry without guesswork.

Where to find Sandcarvers in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Sandcarvers show up in the Blasted Steps, specifically in the sandy patches where they burrow and swarm as you approach. They appear from the sand rather than dropping from the ceiling, so they’re treated separately from the large worms that fall in the Wormways.

So, if you’re hunting the Sandcarver entry, head to the sandy areas of the Blasted Steps and look for the telltale ground ripples or disturbed sand when you move close.

How to defeat Sandcarvers in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The most reliable method is to throw a Pimpillo bomb into the sand where the Sandcarvers swarm. The bomb bounces, detonates under the sand, and registers kills even though you can’t actually see the worms during the explosion.

It usually takes two bombs to meet the hunter’s log requirement. First, you’ll see the hunter’s log icon pop up in the bottom-left of the screen when the first bomb counts. Then throw another bomb and the icon should reappear with a slash through it, indicating the entry is complete.

For completeness: we tested several melee tools — the Threefold Pin, Longpin, and Sting Shard — and none triggered the journal entry when used on the sand. Therefore, while other methods might exist, the Pimpillo is the easiest and most consistent option.

Where to get the Pimpillo bomb in Hollow Knight: Silksong

You can craft the Pimpillo at a crafting table located in the northwestern corner of Greymoor. The table sits in a small nook above Yarnaby’s home, so you’ll need the cling jump ability to reach it.

To craft the bomb you need a piece of Craftmetal. If you don’t have one, you can buy Craftmetal from Pebb in Bone Bottom for 60 rosary beads. After getting Craftmetal and the cling jump, return to the Greymoor crafting table and make the Pimpillo.

Finally, note that progressing the main story gives combat upgrades that can help elsewhere: for example, after completing “The Threadspun Town” quest you can upgrade your needle to deal more damage. However, the Sandcarver log itself is most directly and reliably completed with the Pimpillo bomb method described above.
