Find Cling Grip Fast — The Quickest Route to the Wall Jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Want to learn the wall jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong? You need the Ancestral Art called Cling Grip, which sits at the top of Shellwood. Below you’ll find the exact location and a step-by-step route from Greymoor, plus the fights and stops you’ll run into along the way.

Wall jump (Cling Grip ability) location in Silksong

Cling Grip, which gives you the *wall jump* ability, is located at the top of the Shellwood region. Shellwood sits west of Greymoor and Bellhart, and north of Bone Bottom and The Marrow. In short: you’ll be climbing.

Before you go, bring at least 100 rosaries. That amount lets you buy the Shellwood map and also makes it easier to unlock a resting bench later on.

How to unlock wall jump (Cling Grip) in Silksong

Start in Greymoor and head west. First, pass Halfway Home (Nuu and Creige’s house) and then clear the Moorwing boss, which is found in the bottom-left of the area.

From there, move west through Bellhart and enter Shellwood. In the big open platform room, go to the far left wall, then platform right and back left to find the exit leading upward.

Boss arena with small foes

As you climb, try to fill your Silk bar by clearing small enemies. Soon you’ll drop into a boss arena where you face multiple smaller enemies in waves rather than a single big boss.

Waves are as follows: first two poisonous flowers, then two dagger-wielding stick bugs, and finally a mixed wave of stick bugs and a poisonous flower. Deal with the flowers quickly to avoid poison bursts, and use tools or downward attacks against the stick bugs when safe.

Resting bench and map purchase

After clearing that arena, unlock the resting bench that sits above it. Then take the nearby elevator to the bottom and head west to find Shakra. There you can purchase the Shellwood map — which is why those 100 rosaries are useful.

Once you have the map and a rest, return upward and skip the flower jumps by taking the elevator route you opened.

Sister Splinter boss

Continue east to the Sister Splinter arena. Her main attacks are downward slashes while she hangs from the ceiling, so be ready to dash sideways. Watch for a charging motion where she draws her claws in; that’s your cue to back off.

She will sometimes summon thorny branches that block the floor. You can break those branches in two or three hits, or wait for her attacks to destroy them. Also, she occasionally spawns minions; prioritize those with tools or Silk-consuming attacks so the arena doesn’t get crowded.

Final climb and obtaining Cling Grip

After Sister Splinter, keep moving west and follow the white flowers upward and left as needed. Cross the water, break branches that block doors, and keep climbing along the left wall until you reach the large doorway near the top.

Interact with that doorway to obtain the Cling Grip Ancestral Art. That unlocks the wall jump for your movement toolkit.

How to perform the wall jump

To use the wall jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong, jump toward a wall as normal. Then, while clinging, press the jump button again to leap off the wall and gain extra height. In short: jump, cling, and jump again.
