Follow the Golden Rings to Shakra — Quick Trail’s End Walkthrough and How to Get the Throwing Ring in Hollow Knight: Silksong
If you’ve bought every map from Shakra across the world, the *Trail’s End* quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong will appear on the Bellhart quest board. The job is simple in concept: follow the golden rings Shakra dropped and catch up to her. However, the path hides in Bilewater’s northeast and can be tricky to reach depending on which roads and bosses you’ve cleared.
‘Trail’s End’ quest location in Hollow Knight: Silksong
You unlock the quest after buying every Shakra map in every region where she appears. In short, buy all of Shakra’s maps and then check the quest board in Bellhart.
Specifically, you must purchase Shakra’s maps from these locations:
- Bone Bottom — near the northwestern exit of The Marrow
- The Marrow — in the northwest
- Deep Docks — in a vertical chamber with hanging bell weights
- Far Fields — in a small room near the bottom of the tallest chamber on the right
- Hunter’s March — at the end of the lower path to the east
- Greymoor — after entering Greymoor from Far Fields, head right
- Bellhart — on the west side of the lower path of Shellwood
- Shellwood — on the west side of the lower path
- Worm Ways — the northeastern road
- Blasted Steps — the large chamber in the east
- Sands of Karak — in a small room on the left side of the bottom of the vertical chamber
- Mount Fay — after entering from The Slab, continue left to find Shakra
- Sinner’s Road — next to the bench in the left side of the first vertical chamber
- Bilewater — in a smaller room to the right, about halfway up the largest vertical chamber
Also, if you miss Shakra at one spot you can buy her maps at another of her locations. Note that some region maps are sold by other vendors, so you don’t need those to start this quest.
‘Trail’s End’ quest walkthrough in Hollow Knight: Silksong
The objective is straightforward: interact with the golden rings Shakra left behind to track her. The rings lead to the northeastern corner of Bilewater.
Shortest route (via Putrified Ducts)
First, this route requires access to the road between Putrified Ducts and Bilewater. In addition, you must have defeated Groal the Great in Bilewater to use the shortest path.
From the Putrified Ducts Bellway Station:
- Drop down the large vertical chamber to the left.
- At the bottom, go left and destroy two breakable walls if needed.
- Drop into Bilewater, then glide down to the highest path on the right (through Groal’s former arena).
- Continue east until a large chamber; a ring sits on the ground just after you enter. Interact with it to begin tracking Shakra.
Next, pogo across the poison blobs to reach the exit in the upper right. Then follow the waterfalls along the secret passage; it will feel like you’re off the map. That path leads directly to Shakra.
Alternative route (from Bilewater Bellway Station)
If you haven’t opened the Putrified Ducts–Bilewater road, start at the Bilewater Bellway Station instead. This route is longer but uses the same secret waterfall passage at the end.
From the Bilewater Bellway Station:
- Enter the large eastern chamber and take the upper-right exit.
- In the next vertical chamber, exit upper-left and parkour upward.
- Then take the next exit to the right and continue east until you reach a large room with a steep drop.
- Parkour up to the top-right corner to find the secret waterfall passage that leads to Shakra.
Finally, when you reach Shakra, use the Needolin ability when prompted to complete the quest.
‘Trail’s End’ quest reward in Hollow Knight: Silksong
Completing *Trail’s End* rewards you with the Throwing Ring. It is a high-impact throwable tool that bounces between enemies and surfaces.
You can carry up to 10 Throwing Rings at a time.
Also note: buying all of Shakra’s maps is the requirement to start this quest, and you only need the maps she sells in her listed locations to trigger it.
