Get the Game‑Changing Cogfly in Hollow Knight: Silksong — Where to Find It and How to Craft It
The Cogfly tool is a deployable minion in Hollow Knight: Silksong that automatically attacks nearby enemies for the cost of 10 Shell Shards per Cogfly. It can make some fights easier by letting you focus on movement, and it must be crafted from one piece of Craftmetal once you reach the right area.

The Cogfly tool is found in the High Halls region, which is north of the Choral Chambers. To craft it you must interact with a board labeled “construct tool” in that area and spend one piece of Craftmetal. Also, deploying each Cogfly consumes 10 Shell Shards.
How to get Craftmetal
You need one piece of Craftmetal to build the Cogfly. Concrete ways to obtain Craftmetal include:
- Buying from Pebb in Bone Bottom for 60 rosaries.
- Buying from Jubilana in Songclave for 180 rosaries, but you must complete the “The Wandering Merchant” wish first.
- Looting a chamber directly below the Clawline ability in The Cauldron.
- Looting the easternmost corner of the Putrified Ducts.
Reaching the High Halls
First, you must have the Clawline ability. Clawline is found in The Cauldron, at the heart of the Underworks. Once you have it, go to the northwest corner of the Choral Chambers.
There, you’ll find a vertical room with golden rings. Use the Clawline to grab the lowest ring, then jump and use the Clawline again to reach the higher rings. After you reach the top of that chamber, head east to enter High Halls.
Along the route you will encounter an enemy with its own Cogflies circling it; those minions disappear when the main enemy is defeated. Later, hang on to a turning wheel with Clawline and use your Cling Grip (wall jump) to reach the highest point before exiting east. Be aware that two knife-wielding enemies spawn near the end of a following room; you can dash past them or retreat into the water, which returns you to the chamber entrance without damage.
Crafting the Cogfly and nearby amenities
In the appropriate High Halls chamber, glide down (avoid spikes) and take the left exit when possible. At the end of that chamber, interact with the board and select “construct tool” to craft the Cogfly tool once you have Craftmetal.
Before leaving the region, consider returning to the vertical chamber to the right. Drop to the bottom, turn right, and you’ll find a bench, a Ventrica Station, and the High Halls map. These amenities make further exploration and fast travel easier.
