Ghost of Yōtei Hides a Full Tribute to Jin Sakai — Helmet, Grave and His Final Haiku

Sucker Punch’s new open-world Ghost of Yōtei quietly pays tribute to Jin Sakai, the protagonist of 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima. Players who reach a late-game side quest called “The Storm Blade” will find a short questline that directly references Jin: a haiku, his helmet, a gravemarker and a small in-game legend that ties him to Mount Yōtei.
Overview
Ghost of Yōtei includes a full side quest that celebrates the earlier game rather than just dropping a random cosmetic. In short, Sucker Punch built a short, self-contained tribute into the map that players can discover during normal exploration. The quest ties into story elements and world locations, and it appears late in the game so you may need to progress the main story first.
Where to find the quest
The side mission “The Storm Blade” is located in Oshima Coast. However, that area is only fully accessible once you have defeated the Oni and the Kitsune of the Yōtei Six as part of the main storyline. Therefore, expect this to show up after you clear those beats of the plot.
What happens in “The Storm Blade”
Quest steps and key moments
First, the storyteller Ugetsu tasks your character, Atsu, with finding a katana called the Storm Blade. He says he can’t place the correct story until he sees the sword. During the mission, Atsu discovers a haiku written by Jin that speaks to his loneliness. Next, Atsu enters the Lost Shinobi Den and finds Jin’s helmet there.
Conflict and resolution
While attempting to claim the Storm Blade, Atsu is ambushed by members of the Nine Tails faction. She defeats two, then chases the third who escaped with the katana. The chase leads past Jin’s home and to a place labeled the Grave of the Warrior of Storm. After a duel in front of Jin’s gravemarker, Atsu reclaims the katana.
After the fight, Ugetsu examines the blade and tells Atsu Jin’s story from Ghost of Tsushima exactly as a legend: he says the tale was “outlawed by an old Shogun hundreds of years ago.” Ugetsu then says that Jin became a wanted man and that, according to the legend, he spent his last days in Ezo beneath Mount Yōtei.
Easter eggs and extra details
In addition to the helmet and the gravemarker, you can explore Jin’s home near the gravesite. The house contains several small nods to Jin’s life in Ezo, and players on Reddit have collected a few interesting details; for example, there are clues that hint at his time after the events of Tsushima. Read more in this Reddit thread about Jin’s days in Ezo. Moreover, after completing the quest you can also spot a separate Easter egg that honors the development team — which players have discussed on this Reddit post.
Rewards and tangible items
Finally, the quest gives you a few concrete collectibles: you can take Jin’s mask from his gravemarker, and you obtain the Storm Blade katana after the duel. In addition, visiting Jin’s house lets you pick up smaller environmental items and read notes that add context to the tribute.
