Gold Bottle Caps in Pokémon Go: How to Get Them, What They Do, and Are They Worth the Price?

Ever wondered how to finally turn that “almost perfect” Pokémon into a real hundo in Pokémon Go? Gold Bottle Caps are the new ultra-rare item that let you do just that! But is it worth the grind (and cash)? Here’s everything you need to know about Gold Bottle Caps in Pokémon Go — how they work, how to get them, and if they’re really worth your time and money.

What do Gold Bottle Caps do in Pokémon Go?
Gold Bottle Caps are not just another collectible. In Pokémon Go, these rare items let you max out all IV stats (Attack, Defense, Stamina) for a single Pokémon. That’s right — even your old 80% IV Mewtwo could become a true 100% hundo with just one Gold Bottle Cap!
Unlike the mainline Pokémon games, there are no regular Bottle Caps in Pokémon Go yet — only the gold ones. In the main games, a normal Bottle Cap maxes out one stat, while a Gold Bottle Cap does them all. Here, it’s all or nothing.
How do you use a Gold Bottle Cap?
You can use a Gold Bottle Cap on any non-shadow Pokémon that is at least a Good Buddy. Once you use it, you’ll get a special set of research tasks called Hyper Training. These tasks might include winning gym battles with that Pokémon in your party or spinning PokéStops with it as your buddy.
One important thing: You have to finish the Hyper Training tasks within 365 days of starting. If you don’t, the tasks will expire and your chance is gone.
How to get Gold Bottle Caps in Pokémon Go
Right now, there’s only one way to get a Gold Bottle Cap: Buy and complete the deluxe version of the “Go Pass: Ancients Recovered” battle pass for $20. Yes, it’s locked behind a paywall. The cap also expires on Sunday, July 6, at 11:59 p.m. local time, so don’t wait too long!
Just like previous Go Passes, you can rank up to 100 and then decide to buy the deluxe version, retroactively getting all the premium rewards — including the Gold Bottle Cap. But there’s a catch: from June 23-27, you can only earn 1,000 pass points per day. This daily limit goes away during the Go Fest Global event on June 28 and 29. Remember, all rewards must be claimed by June 29 at 11:59 p.m. local time or they’ll disappear.
Will there be more ways to get Gold Bottle Caps?
Probably, but don’t count on free-to-play options any time soon. Just like the Lucky Trinket, Gold Bottle Caps are ultra-rare, and future opportunities will likely also involve spending real money.
Is the Gold Bottle Cap worth buying?
Here’s the big question. The current “Go Pass: Ancients Recovered” isn’t exactly amazing — it’s missing items like Raid Passes or Rare Candy XL. Most premium rewards are Lucky Eggs and Lure Modules. For $20, you could buy about 30 Premium Battle Passes instead.
But if you have a super rare Pokémon you want to max out, like a Galarian bird or an old Armored Mewtwo, the Gold Bottle Cap could be the way to go. As always, it depends how much you value having that perfect Pokémon in your collection.
(When is Armored Mewtwo coming back, Scopely? Hmm..?)
