Release date and platforms
Rockstar officially announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive on May 26, 2026. The confirmed platforms at this time are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Furthermore, Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version or the game’s price.
Delay and developer comments
Initially, many expected GTA 6 in fall 2025. However, in May 2025 Rockstar pushed the release back and gave a public explanation. As Rockstar said at the time, “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected.” For the full statement, see Rockstar’s announcement on their Newswire.
Alongside that delay, Rockstar shared a new trailer for the game.
Could GTA 6 be delayed again?
Rockstar has a long history of delaying major releases, and the studio has described GTA 6 as “the largest game launch in history,” aiming for a massive day-one audience. Moreover, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick told CNBC in August that his “level of conviction is very, very high” regarding the May 2026 date.
At the moment, there are no public signs of another delay. Nevertheless, Rockstar’s previous projects — including Grand Theft Auto IV, GTA V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 — were delayed during development, so further changes would not be unprecedented.
GTA Online and other details
Rockstar has not yet said how GTA Online will tie into GTA 6, or whether an online component will launch the same day as the main campaign. Also, details such as a PC release date and pricing remain unannounced.
