Halo Writer to Bring Assassin’s Creed to Life in New Netflix Series

Assassin’s Creed Live-Action Series Finally in the Works at Netflix
After years of waiting, Netflix has officially announced that a live-action Assassin’s Creed series is now in development. The project, initially reported five years ago, has found its creative leaders in Roberto Patino and David Wiener, both serving as showrunners, creators, and executive producers. Notably, Wiener also contributed to the Halo show, adding some solid sci-fi credentials to the mix.
- Netflix and Ubisoft partnership since 2020
- Roberto Patino and David Wiener leading the series
- Story focuses on the secret war between two factions
- Potential inspiration from the Ezio Auditore trilogy
- First live-action Ubisoft series with Netflix
What the Series Will Be About
The official description frames the show as a clash between two secretive groups: one trying to control humanity’s future through manipulation, and the other fighting to protect free will. Fans will recognize these as the Templars and the Assassins, the core opposing forces in the game franchise. Set against significant historical events, the story promises to explore themes of power, violence, greed, vengeance, but also the value of human connection across cultures and time.
Wiener and Patino shared their excitement with Variety: “We’ve been fans of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us.”
Setting and Inspirations
Although the timeline for the show hasn’t been confirmed, a brief 10-second teaser from Netflix hints at a strong connection to the beloved Ezio Auditore trilogy, which includes Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations. The teaser even features the iconic “Ezio’s Family” theme by Jesper Kyd, which fans will instantly recognize.

Who’s Behind the Show?
Roberto Patino has a solid background, having worked on HBO Max’s DMZ and Netflix’s Zero Day starring Robert De Niro, along with credits on Westworld and Sons of Anarchy. David Wiener brings experience as showrunner for Halo Season 2 and Peacock’s Brave New World, plus writing for Fear the Walking Dead and Homecoming.
What About Ubisoft and Netflix Collaboration?
This will be the first live-action series from Ubisoft and Netflix working together. The two have previously collaborated on animated projects like Rabbids Invasion, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Deathwatch series set to debut later in 2025.
Fans of the games will recall the use of advanced technology to unlock genetic memories in the story, a concept that could translate well into a compelling series. The 2016 film adaptation starring Michael Fassbender didn’t quite hit the mark critically, so expectations are high for this new take.
Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project unfolds!
