HBO Max Raised Prices Overnight — Your Monthly Bill Just Got $1–$2 Bigger

Woke up to a lighter wallet? That’s because while you slept, the price of HBO Max subscriptions rose, with changes taking effect Oct. 21. The hike adds between $1–$2 per month depending on your plan, and annual subscribers see smaller relative increases.
Price changes
Across the board, HBO Max raised prices modestly. Below is the breakdown of the old and new prices so you can see exactly how much more you’ll pay.
- Monthly Basic with commercials: was $9.99, now $10.99
- Annual Basic with commercials: was $99.99, now $109.99
- Monthly Standard: was $16.99, now $18.49
- Annual Standard: was $169.99, now $184.99
- Monthly Premium: was $20.99, now $22.99
- Annual Premium: was $200.99, now $229.99
Billing and notices
If you’re an existing subscriber, HBO Max will notify you 30 days before your next billing date about the new price. Then, the new rate applies starting on that billing date. So, you won’t see the change immediately unless your billing cycle happens right after Oct. 21.
Why the price hike
HBO hasn’t published a single line explaining this particular change, but the timing aligns with a slate of new and returning originals. In short, the service is likely recalibrating prices as it rolls out high-profile content and expands its originals lineup.

What to watch (new and returning shows)
Part of the timing coincides with several big releases and returns. For example, It: Welcome to Derry debuts on Oct. 26, and that high-profile launch arrives just days after the price change.
New and returning originals
Additionally, the medical drama The Pitt, starring Noah Wyle, has been successful and is set to return in January for a second season. Meanwhile, HBO is developing multiple DC Universe series such as Booster Gold and Lanterns, which are in production.
Unresolved shows
Finally, there is still no confirmed public plan for Peacemaker after the season 2 cliffhanger. So, while some shows are driving subscriber interest now, other fan-favorite projects remain in limbo.
