Who’s involved
James Gunn is directing and is co-head of DC Studios. The 2025 film Superman starred David Corenswet, and Warner Bros. Discovery previously said Gunn was already writing the next chapter of the “Super-family.”
Shortly after Gunn’s post, Isabela Merced teased that she will return as Hawkgirl for the sequel.

Artwork and characters
The shared art by Jim Lee depicts Lex Luthor wearing his Warsuit alongside Superman. In the comics, the Warsuit is a well-known way Luthor confronts Superman, and the artwork confirms the suit’s presence in this film’s material.
Where Man of Tomorrow fits in the DCU
The sequel is currently scheduled after two DCU releases in 2026: Supergirl (directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock) and Clayface (directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan, and starring Tom Rhys Harries). Warner Bros. Discovery previously noted Gunn was working on the next chapter in an August shareholder letter.
Superman (2025) has so far grossed more than $560 million worldwide, which the studio cited when discussing further Superman projects.
Historical note
This will be the first direct theatrical Superman sequel since Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). Henry Cavill’s earlier portrayal of Superman did not receive a direct sequel during that era; more on that history appears in reporting from ABC News.
