Kojima & Jordan Peele’s OD (Knock) Trailer Is a P.T.-Level Nightmare — Sophia Lillis Stars, Xbox and Niantic Onboard

Hideo Kojima used Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary event to show the first full trailer for OD, the horror game he’s making with Jordan Peele. The presentation also included early casting details for Physint, an announcement about an AR collaboration with Niantic, and a segment about the upcoming Death Stranding movie.

OD trailer

The new trailer for OD, subtitled “Knock”, is presented in photorealistic first-person. In the footage a character lights candles shaped like babies in a sparsely furnished room while loud knocking sounds come from a door. The camera then shows the player character’s face — played by Sophia Lillis — looking terrified, before large, grayish hands grab her.

Xbox Game Studios is publishing OD and assisting with development. Phil Spencer introduced the trailer alongside Kojima and said: “truly visionary” and “Kojima is innovating in gameplay, story, and player engagement.” Kojima said the studio scanned real-world locations for the game and that he wants to “scan a ghost for the first time,” joking that he wants to “get an award for that.” He also said: “there’s a different kind of fear Jordan [Peele] will do, mine is the fear of the knock. I’m really afraid of the knock sound!”

Spencer added that Xbox Game Studios was helping with technical work in Unreal Engine, “both in what’s flashy on the screen, but also a lot of behind-the-scenes work.” No release date or platforms were announced.

Physint and casting

Kojima shared a poster for Physint, described as a tactical espionage game and a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. The poster shows a male character carrying a gun with his face obscured and the slogan “Here comes the feeling.” Kojima said Physint “will be using technology even further than OD.”

He also revealed three cast members who will appear in Physint: Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok, and Minami Hamabe. However, Kojima said he was not ready to announce casting for the main character.

Niantic AR collaboration

Kojima Productions announced a collaboration with Niantic on an AR title. The announcement included a visual and the slogan “Move beyond the screen.” A short trailer showed a person wearing AR glasses exploring a hilltop, and Kojima said the project would be “like the real Death Stranding in the real world.”

Death Stranding movie

A24’s film adaptation of Death Stranding was also showcased. Director Michael Sarnoski described the movie as telling a new story with new characters set in the game’s world. He said: “We want to find all of that scope and all of those incredible real locations, but also find all of those nuanced characters and just do justice to this on a micro and macro scale.”
