How the tutorial comic works
The comic acts as an on-page narrator, guiding the Hero (the player) through a short introductory adventure. Consequently, you don’t have to sit through a long rules lecture. Instead, the rules are introduced in context as you make decisions and see their consequences. Also, the tutorial shows you the world, the tone, and the basic flow of play so you can jump into the full game with fewer stumbling blocks.
Play styles supported
You can play solo and act as both the Hero and the Narrator, or you can play with a second player who takes the Narrator role. Furthermore, additional players can join future full adventures as accompanying heroes. In short, the comic is designed to be flexible from the first session onward.
How characters are defined
Unlike many tabletop RPGs that rely on numbers and stats, Legend in the Mist uses words — specifically descriptors and tags — to shape characters. Each Hero has four main themes, and each theme includes both positive and negative tags that affect decisions and outcomes. For example, the tutorial Hero is described as a “spirited youth,” which gives them fierce determination but also makes them headstrong.
