Casting change: Liam Hemsworth as Geralt

Liam Hemsworth replaces Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for season 4. Hemsworth previously appeared in the action film Land of Bad, and the trailer shows him performing as Geralt.

Laurence Fishburne is also listed among the season’s cast, playing the vampire Regis.

Why Henry Cavill left

Henry Cavill left the series after season 3. He publicly described his departure as “passing the torch.” At the same time, reports and former writers have pointed to creative disagreements about how the show should handle the books and games; see this IGN report for more on those discussions.

During his time on the show, Cavill emphasized his connection to Andrzej Sapkowski’s books and took an active role in shaping Geralt’s portrayal, including revising scenes to better match the character.

Production notes

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich returned for season 4. Netflix signed a multi-year deal with Hissrich in 2021, and her other Witcher-related work includes the animated project Sirens of the Deep.

Season 4 is expected to continue the series’ storylines, with the official season summary noting that Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri start the season separated by a large war and many enemies, and that they encounter unexpected allies along the way.
