Demo details

Enhance released a playable demo for Lumines Arise that runs from Aug. 26 to Sept. 3. The demo is available on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. It includes three single-player Journey Mode stages and the multiplayer Burst Battle mode.

In Burst Battle, the game uses a new Burst mechanic. Essentially, using the Burst mechanic prevents a matched 2×2 square of blocks from clearing immediately, which lets players build that square larger until a timer ends. Consequently, in single-player clearing a Burst-boosted square creates bigger combos and higher scores. Meanwhile, in multiplayer the mechanic also sends junk blocks to opponents, similar in feeling to Tetris Effect’s Zone mechanic.

Release date, platforms and editions

Enhance will release Lumines Arise on Nov. 11 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC via Steam. The standard edition is priced at $39.99. There is also a digital deluxe edition for $44.99, which includes special avatars and name plates. Those cosmetics include designs based on Enhance’s own titles, Rez Infinite and Tetris Effect, as well as Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Astro Bot.

Where this sits in the series

Lumines Arise is the first new entry in the franchise since Lumines Remastered (2018), and it is the first all-new console entry since Lumines: Electronic Symphony (2012). The game continues the series’ classic 2×2 block-dropping, music-infused gameplay while offering an updated presentation and new mechanics.
