- Expansion releases September 8, available to non-Kickstarter backers

- Battle Systems plans more expansions and new terrain sets
What’s New in The Forbidden Creed?
The Forbidden Creed shakes things up by introducing dark magic. This risky power can give your characters some incredible abilities, but it comes with a catch—too much corruption and you might lose control of your hero. Besides that, you’ll get to recruit or summon new companions, like a giant frog-like creature that gives you more storage but eats your magic items. As Colin Young, founder of Battle Systems, puts it: “You really do need to save gamers from themselves. They’ll have a much better experience if they follow through the core game and really get to understand it then add the expansions in, otherwise it can be a little bit overwhelming.”

Monsters, Mounts, and More
The new expansion doesn’t stop at dark magic. It introduces the Urmek, a shamanic species designed to look more like aliens than classic fantasy monsters. These foes bring their own aggressive drones, Brutecks—huge juggernauts—and even ride sharp-toothed, hairless beasts called Dreck into battle. Their shaman leader can boost allies and summon monstrous plant abominations. Players will need to rethink their tactics as they face these new challenges.

And it’s not just enemies who get mounts. Players can now ride new creatures, including a four-eyed, bison-like beast and a bird-like war mount. These mounts help you cover more ground and change up the action on larger maps. According to Young, “With Maladum, we don’t have dogs, we don’t have horses. Those things pull me thematically straight out.”
Meet the New Adventurers
The expansion also adds four new playable characters. For example, Aurora Mundsdotir is a 12-year-old blacksmith apprentice wielding superheated hammers, while Rex Nairn brings demolitions expertise. There’s also T’or Raan, a four-armed marksman with a tendency to go berserk up close. These unique heroes bring fresh playstyles and abilities for you to explore.

More Ways to Play and Build
Battle Systems is also working to make Maladum even more accessible. The team is revamping the user interface and updating all the tutorials on their website, making it easier for newcomers to jump in. You can also buy extra terrain sets—like crypts, mines, and sewers—separately, and they fit perfectly with other tabletop RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons. Check out the terrain sets here.
Looking ahead, the next crowdfunding campaign will support a new Hyberian terrain set, which will let players build a village complete with a forge and tavern. As Young explains, “We were a terrain company before we were a games company. If people have not seen it before and they’re [playing] D&D and the DM lifts the cover off this, it just transforms that experience immensely. I think that’s where it wins.”
Maladum: The Forbidden Creed is available to preorder now for $69.99, with the official release set for September 8. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to Maladum, this expansion offers plenty of reasons to jump back into the adventure.
