February nearby releases

Recent announcements that filled the calendar
Several events and streams in late 2025 added dates to the calendar.
On Sept. 24, PlayStation used its State of Play livestream to give release dates for Housemarque’s Saros and Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert.
During the Sept. 25 Tokyo Game Show broadcast, Xbox Game Studios revealed Forza Horizon 6. According to an Xbox Wire blog post, developer Playground Games plans to share more details in “early 2026.”
Why the February–March window fills up
There are two main, factual reasons industry observers point to.
Pandemic-driven schedule shifts
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many development timelines, causing delays and shifts in release schedules. As projects returned to more regular cycles, several releases concentrated in late winter. For example, February 2022 included back-to-back major releases such as Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring, as noted in reporting at the time; see this Kotaku story.
Similar clusters appeared in February 2023 and March 2024. More recently, February 2025 was also heavy on releases; a summary is available in another Kotaku article. For background on pandemic-related delays, see reporting on development impacts from the period, such as Bloomberg’s coverage.
Fiscal-year timing
Many major video game publishers close their fiscal years at the end of March. Consequently, publishers sometimes time releases late in the fiscal year because opening-week sales count toward that year’s results. For example, investor and financial pages for several companies show fiscal calendars and reports: Bandai Namco, Capcom, Nintendo, PlayStation financial coverage, Square Enix, and Take-Two Interactive.
What to watch next
Industry watchers are also keeping an eye on Grand Theft Auto 6, which has been reported to have a May 26, 2026 release date. Bloomberg has covered how that title affected other publishers’ plans; see their report for details: Bloomberg on GTA 6’s calendar impact.
Finally, as developers and publishers finalize plans, more dates could appear. For example, Playground Games said it would share further details about Forza Horizon 6 in early 2026 via the previously cited Xbox Wire post.
