Marvel Zombies: Red Band Turns the Fantastic Four into Flesh‑Eating Nightmares — Out Sept. 17

Marvel Comics is launching a new, gore-heavy limited series called Marvel Zombies: Red Band, and it arrives in comic shops on Sept. 17 — one week before Disney Plus’ Marvel Zombies miniseries premieres on Sept. 24. The five-issue run reimagines classic Marvel moments as zombie horror and is being released in Marvel’s adult-oriented Red Band format.

  • Series launch: Sept. 17 (five issues).
  • Disney Plus miniseries premieres: Sept. 24.
  • Creative team: Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan (writers); Jan Bazaldua (penciller); Erick Arciniega (colors).
  • Format: Marvel’s Red Band adult label (introduced in 2024) with a parental advisory.
  • Extras: Second issue on Oct. 22; 10 variant covers roll out through October.

What the series is

Marvel Zombies: Red Band is a five-issue limited series that inserts horror into key moments across Marvel history. The run is billed under Marvel’s adult Red Band format, which allows for more graphic art and comes with a parental advisory label. For more background on the Red Band format, Marvel explains the initiative on their site.

Release dates and story beats

The first issue arrives Sept. 17. It imagines the famous space flight that created the Fantastic Four instead producing flesh-eating versions of Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Sue Storm and Johnny Storm. Then, the second issue lands Oct. 22 and presents a zombified take on the Secret Wars concept: years after the first outbreak, survivors are taken to another world and forced to face undead superheroes.

Creators and credits

The series is written by Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, who are credited as creators from Kill Your Darlings. Jan Bazaldua provides the pencils, and Erick Arciniega handles colors. Meanwhile, cover art for one of the issues is by Greg Land, showing a bloody brawl with Hawkeye, the Hulk, and Charles Xavier.

Format, ratings, and related Marvel use

Marvel’s Red Band label is meant to signal adult content. Consequently, the comics carry a parental advisory similar to the MA rating used for the Marvel Zombies TV miniseries. Marvel has applied Red Band mainly to horror-focused titles like Blade, Werewolf by Night, and the vampire event Blood Hunt, and it has also allowed edgier approaches for characters such as the Punisher and Wolverine.

Variant covers and how to preorder

Alongside the main issues, Marvel is releasing a set of 10 variant covers throughout October. These feature zombified versions of characters including Spider-Gwen, Thor, Silver Surfer, Emma Frost, and others. You can preorder them at your local comic shop.
