Master Chief Finally Lands on PlayStation — Halo: Campaign Evolved Remake in Unreal Engine 5 Due 2026

Halo: Campaign Evolved — a full remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign — will launch in 2026 and is being built in Unreal Engine 5 by Halo Studios. It’s a ground-up remake that modernizes the original game while keeping its core campaign intact, and it will arrive on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
Release details
Halo: Campaign Evolved is scheduled for release in 2026. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The remake focuses solely on the original game’s campaign rather than the classic split-screen PvP found in the 2001 release.
Gameplay changes
The remake updates mechanics to align more closely with later Halo titles. For example, Master Chief can now pick up and use certain enemy weapons — notably the Energy Sword — that were previously off-limits in the original. Additionally, players can pilot the Covenant Wraith tank in the campaign for the first time, and vehicle hijacking (and being hijacked) is implemented.
Movement is being modernized too: a sprint button is added, which changes how players navigate combat and exploration. The studio says the intention is to modernize without fundamentally changing the story or structure of the original campaign.
Moreover, the remake includes three brand-new levels that act as prequels, starring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson.
Multiplayer and sharing
While Campaign Evolved does not include classic PvP multiplayer, it does support cooperative play. Specifically, the campaign will offer two-player local split-screen co-op and four-player online co-op. The game will also feature full crossplay and cross-progression across platforms.
Voice cast
Several key voice actors have returned to re-record material for the remake. Notably, Steve Downes (Master Chief) and Jen Taylor (Cortana) have recorded new vocal tracks for this version.
Studio and tech
This is the first project from Halo Studios, the rebranded name for the team formerly known as 343 Industries. After announcing a shift called “A New Dawn” for the franchise in 2024, the studio confirmed it would move Halo development to Unreal Engine 5. Campaign Evolved is the first Halo project built in that engine.
