How to Get All Banandium Gems in Kong Bananza: City Smash Challenge
If you’re diving into Donkey Kong Bananza and want to conquer the Kong Bananza: City Smash challenge, you’re in the right place. This challenge can be a bit puzzling at first since the fractone gives no real hints on what to do. Smashing concrete is just the start — to grab all three Banandium Gems, you’ll need to master some well-timed charged punches and clear the building efficiently.

Finding the City Smash Challenge
The City Smash portal is located in Longneck Plateau Village, right next to the Getaway spot and close to the Teeleport gong. To enter, you must be in Kong Bananza form. Luckily, you stay in this powered-up form throughout the challenge, so you don’t have to worry about collecting gold to maintain it. Before you start, it’s a good idea to have at least the first level of DK’s Charge Punch and the Fast Charge Kong Bananza skills unlocked for maximum efficiency.
How to Complete City Smash and Get the Banandium Gems
Unlike other challenges, two of the three Banandium Gems here are tied to your completion time: one for finishing within 60 seconds, and the other for finishing with 20 seconds left on the clock. The third gem is hidden under some concrete and only appears after you clear the entire stage.
The key, which the fractone never explicitly mentions, is that you must destroy not only the concrete pillars but also all brick walls and columns inside the building. To do this quickly, use Kong Bananza’s charged punches every time you hit something. This move sends the object flying into others, breaking multiple pieces with a single punch and saving precious seconds.
Start by moving clockwise — turn left at the beginning, then take right turns on each floor while smashing everything in sight. At the end of each floor, a barrel cannon will launch you to the next level to repeat the process.
When you reach the penultimate floor (not the roof, which has nothing valuable), you’ll find a giant concrete pillar surrounded by a cage with one open side next to a brick pillar. Charge your punch, smash the concrete, and that will clear the challenge. It might take a few tries to keep 20 seconds on the clock, but once you get the rhythm, it becomes much easier.
Claiming the Third Banandium Gem
The last Banandium Gem only appears after you’ve fully demolished the building and completed the challenge. If you punched through the final concrete pillar, you might have collected it automatically. If not, look for a small dirt patch in the center of the foundation. Ground pound there to reveal the final gem.
